leaving your mindees with your partner/hubby.

I was just thinking that in some cases, probably very rarely, I may have to leave my mindees with hubby - is it ok just to do a form stating this and asking parent to sign?

Do any childminders out there do this?

Thanks

Not really

You shouldn't really be leaving them with an unregistered person (I'm assuming they have been police checked as you live in the same house)

It might be worth him registering as an assistant if this might come up

I do have a bit on my contract that in an extreme emergency they may be left with someone unregistered - but that the person will contact the parent so the children could be colleted asap (using DH having a heart attack or DD being rushed to hosp as a reason why) - but it is not thought to be good practise

I do go on a bit don't I?...Sorry

Thanks!

Yeah it was only for very extreme cases!

Did you draw up your own contract or do you use the NCMA one?

I am waiting to receive stuff from the NCMA.

I use NCMA but with my own addendum (just CAT if you want a copy - everyone else has)

I do think getting him reg as an assistant is a good idea tho'

I would definitely register your dh as an assistant because it just covers you if there is an emergency. I've also had my dds registered as assistants for the same reason. Parents have given signed permission that I can leave their children with any of them in an emergency.

It also means that, should I be mad enough to want to, I can have 6 children under the age of 5!

I have a friend (also mother of one of my mindees) who is my end-of-the-world-emergency back-up. OFSTED would prefer that you have either another registered minder or someone who has been police-checked (she is neither of these), but this mum is known to most of my mindees and their parents. She works from home and is 2 minutes drive from my house, and would be in a much better position to deal with collection of children/school run problems than another minder (with their own mindees and school runs!)

She is not allowed to have access to any contact information unless "The Emergency" happens (and then she is allowed to open the sealed envelope I've given her!!) She has got most of the phone numbers in her own diary anyway!

Oh, and I use the NCMA contracts because they look ultra official and far more professional than anything I'd type on the computer!

katymac · 26/09/2005 21:10

and if you use their contracts and their public liability insurance you get legal cover

Thanks girls!

Is there much hassle involved in getting him reg as an assistant?

No it's a CM2 form then a CRB check (which he has probably has)

It won't automatically increase your numbers - but it is worth it (IMO)

I have a from that parents have signed to say they are happy for my DH to care for children for short periods no longer than 2 hours! I also have a from where my parents have agreed for thier children to be cared for by other named registered childminders due to me being pregnant etc and needing to go to various appointments! OFSTED were fine with my DH caring for the children for short periods and i didnt need to get him registered as he is crb checked and parents are fine with arrangement.
