Sad

awwww

HSMM · 05/12/2010 18:32

thebody - Glad you're having a lovely week :)

On the bright side, nursery pickups stop for the holidays and Christmas shopping will soon be over.

Does that help?

(you forgot the potty training children weeing on the floor and then telling you they wear nappies at home)

Saltire · 05/12/2010 18:36

I ticked off 7 things on your listGrin

thebody · 05/12/2010 19:03

yes HSSM forgot that gem.. I make sure children go home without a nappy in those cases.. wet car seats concentrate parents minds!!!!

I do think the worst though is the late payments and having to chase for money. as if cms dont have enough to do

I am getting to the stage where I am not going to smile politly and say thats fine anymore ... because frankly it bloody well isnt..

I don't blame you, late payments get my back up as well. I hate using vouchers because however obvious it is to parents (very obvious) that the bloody things go out late every month they just seem to hide behind the fact that they pay using vouchers. One parent doesn't even get to the voucher people on time, then it's another 5-7 days wait for the money to actually go in, it really gets on my nerves. Angry

I haven't done a diary for 6 weeks Blush. I am just so bloody sick of them, I tell the parents everything at the door, I can't be arsed to then type it all up as well, I was on the way to giving them up and then some bd burgled the house and stole my laptop, so that's the end of that until after Xmas now, can't say I'm too upset about it though!!

thebody · 05/12/2010 19:38

yes lollipop totaly agree with all that.. i mean why dont some parents pay??? I always paid my playgrop bills for my own dcs.. wouldnt dream of not doing so...

as for the diaries.. am so glad you said that as feel i just cant face them now before christmas.. so much to do.. and as you say you tell it all at the door..

how different is it week to week.. 'we went to soft play/arts and crafts/ walk/... all enjoyed this'... really tedious and cuts into my free time with own family and often find diary sheets in the bags unopened anyway!!!!!!aaahhhggg..

thebody · 05/12/2010 22:23

great list underpaid....agree with all ..

and feel so much better thinking not just me who is gettin pissed off with this....and ironically the kids are the easiest part of the whole job!!!

actually feel getting to the end of a long tether... especialy now that my dd seems to be going down with a bad chesty cough and cold.;. not freakin suprised as 3 mindees this week turned up with antibiotics.. and 2 with temps...

actually didnt even bother to fill out the 'short term medicine chart' i mean whats the point??? parents look at you as if you mad!!! there are actually 4 places for them to sign in the ncma book so crazy really..

feel like jacking the whole thing in and getting a job at asda.... seriously... better pay and sooo much easier...

lollipopmother · 05/12/2010 22:31

Blush I haven't filled in the med book in yonks, I just put it in the daily diaries (when I can be bothered to do them!) and of course I tell parents at pick up, most of the time I text them in case they take pity and pick DC up early - yeah right!!

I also haven't put any bumps in the book for ages either, smallest mindee comes with bruises all the time and tbh I can't remember where she did what. If I was concerned that she'd actually hurt herself or the bruises were of a concerning nature/location then of course I'd jump right to it, but when they are falling all over the place (and half the time throwing themselves on the floor in a strop) the NCMA would be taking more off me for the accident inserts than I'm actually making. I look at my own DD and she has bruises that I have no recollection of her doing Blush

RosieGirl · 06/12/2010 08:01

I'll join in the club.

Agree with all of the above. Really get fed up with accident books, children that are at school come home with regular bumps and bruises and some awful grazes, but they never get me or the parents to sign any type of accident book and they are within the EYFSHmm. Even the nursery have one line, no body diagrams or detailed explanations, just "x fell off trike - bumped head" and they got an outstanding - not fair.

Also fed up with writing daily diaries for those children who are at school/nursery all day, only with me for a couple of hours for dinner, so the work has to be done in the evening.

Actually can't wait for OFSTED, have been on pins for 6 months now, my inspection is overdue, and although I thought back in May I MIGHT get an outstanding, I felt prepared and
up to date. But after lots of new afterschoolies/nurseries, I have let things go as I am so busy and by the end of the day absolutely knackered, I will be lucky to get a satisfactory.

Also parents who are usually really nice seem to be turning into complete PITA's.

dmo · 06/12/2010 08:07

mine come without vests, socks, gloves, hats, and one comes without a coat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

think the charity shop feel sorry for me they must think i own lots of children Grin

dmo · 06/12/2010 08:09

oh and one parent has not paid me for 2wks and just sent a cheque for £60 worth of photos Angry

nameymacnamechanger · 06/12/2010 08:17

This has been an excellent reminder of why I quit cm'ing, hats off to you ladies, it really does have it's downsides. I am often having wistful moments of going back to it but this thread has seen to that!

I am sending you all virtual tea and choccy biscuits to ease the pain.

HSMM · 06/12/2010 09:50

But please note - no mention of horrible children here. My children are all lovely :)

dmo · 06/12/2010 09:57

all my children are fab its the parents Wink

thebody · 06/12/2010 13:19

as all said.. children are the easy part of the job... its the dreaded parents and paperwork.... oh yes and people in the playground saying,'oh are you still doing the babysitting then' aaaarrrggghhh

rosiegirl i am letting things slide as well as quite frankly cant keep up and care for my own dsc and family.. not paperworking at the weekends now so bollocks to it..

dmo done it and why should we on our crap wages clothe these kids!!!! makes me mad!!!

its a shame we feel so bogged down isnt it...

You need to keep posting these threads though - keeps the rest of us up to the mark. And I do mean that sincerely - I was late paying my CM this month (bill received on Wed, cheque not given till today) as I was ill. I did apologise, but also feel guilty as I realise that she may have wanted that money over the weekend Blush

On the subject of diaries, of what is this you speak? I've been using a CM for 6 years, and not had a daily diary at all. I'm not complaining, I get a full verbal update when I collect (and it seems friendlier than a diary) but are they something that is required?

Numberfour · 06/12/2010 13:38

I being constantly behind in my paperwork: attendance registers, bloody planning, observations and assessments, risk assessments, fire drill records, visitors book, etc etc etc etc etc etc.

One CM I know does all that AND end of year reports................... Yikes!

Oh, and newsletters, and policies, and photographs and artwork.

I need a break. Roll on 24th Dec!

lollipopmother · 06/12/2010 16:25

Confused I haven't done any planning since October, haven't updated any risk assessments as I've not been anywhere new, I haven't done a fire drill since Oct either. The only thing I make sure I do is the attendance register as I need it for my invoices.

thebody · 06/12/2010 19:42

poledra.. you are not one of those parents as you obviously care about payments so dont worry...

you know i have no actual idea if daily diaries are actually ofsted required but then neither do ofsted know what is required of cms.. all down to individual inspectors...

lollipop agree, atendance record is always up to date as can see thats important...

fire drill for under 4s... plain silly imo.. you get them out if theres a fire... ffs dont live in a mansion....

planning... i plan to let them have a great day and lots of fun... hows that...

LoveMyGirls · 06/12/2010 19:58

I'm with you ladies!

Sooooooooooooo ready for the break, I had very bad pmt the other week and wrote letters to parents pointing out I need paying on time, I'm not doing dinners anymore and that I was finishing earlier than I had planned for xmas...........they all got the hint and have been super nice since then, I felt a bit bad after I'd done it and was expecting them to be looking for a new cm up in arms over it but as it happened it was fine, think they realise I've had enough of trying to cater for everyone all the time and not being appreciated. I'm a lot happier now despite the fact I'm going to be losing quite a bit of money this month BUT I desperately need the break!

thebody · 07/12/2010 09:50

good on you and enjoy the break..

the body Grin at fire drills.

I had a network co-ordinator around who told me my fire safety bits weren't up to date. (I have a very small 16th century cottage) I stood in the middle of my kitchen pointed to the back door and said there's one exit, pointed at the playroom French doors (kitchen and playroom open plan) said there's the 2nd exit, then pointed at my front door which is directly off the dining room next to the kitchen and said there's my third exit, all keys are on a hook above the door, wherever there is possible fire I would leave by a free exit. I have a separate living room which is the ONLY room not to have a exit, but is not used for child minding, the door remains shut all day (children cant reach the catch), she looked at me sympathetically and said "I can see that, but you really need to write it down to show you have thought about it, and you need to do fire drills to show how it would work, and help the children understand what to do."

Tanith · 08/12/2010 01:03

I can sympathise about the fire drills, but honestly it's a good idea to practice getting them out fast.
When the great day comes, you don't want to find out that little S won't go anywhere without her new shoes on and they take ages to do, M has hysterics because she thinks the house is on fire and the baby asleep will burn to death, and R absolutely, totally will not leave the house until he's finished colouring in his racing car!!!
