I would wonder why and maybe ask to speak to the nanny but probably not if it was explained why the nanny had left.

happychappy · 24/11/2010 20:17

I would ask why and if the answer seemed reasonable be satisfied with that.

Oligo · 24/11/2010 20:31

i would want to speak to nanny

No. What works for one nanny won't necessarily work for another. I go with gut instinct. I can honestly say i've never taken length of previous nannies employment into consideration. I think the only way it would flag up problems is if they go through nannies like water.

Agree with the others. One families Mary Poppins is another families Nightmare of Elm Street. I would ask to speak to the nanny and would want a reason why she was leaving after so short a time. Alarm bells ring if this was a recurrent theme though. I did a job once where I was nanny number eighteen in five years (family lied about that one at interview) I soon found out why.

if they had had lots of nannies (say 3 or more in the past year) then alarm bells would be ringing.... although if at any point they had had a nanny that had stayed for many years, i wouldnt worry so much

frakkinup · 26/11/2010 08:42

I'd also want to know why, preferably speak to the nanny and ideally a previous nanny who had stayed a bit longer. But then I take up references on families whenever possible Grin

Not all jobs work out and it's not necessarily either side's fault.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/11/2010 12:08

depends on why she left, as others have said what suits one nanny doesnt suit another

i took over another nannys job who left after 6mths and she was slagging the job and employers off

i loved the job and stayed there for 5years

euracantha · 28/11/2010 13:34

I went to a job where the last nanny had left after a couple of months but the nanny before her had stayed for two years.I liked them andtook the job and stayed ten years.I know several nannies refused to even go to an interview at my present job but I love it there.Different nannies are looking for different things in a job.
