My friend wants me to look after her dd starting from jan.
I need to register as a childminders.
How long will it take ?
Can I start looking after her before I'm completely registered?

It can take anything between 6-9 months, maybe even longer, for the full process

You can look after her in their home, as a nanny; they will have to pay your tax and NI as an employee

ring your LA for info on hoe to get started in your area

Really!! That long!! God I don't think she can wait around that long! Her cm gave her notice today so needs childcare from jan.

It took me 9 months to register, it's not a quick process.

As comingDownTheChimmley said you can look after the child in their home but they would have to employ you and pay your Tax & NI.

The other alternative would be a Nursery/playgroup.

I asked this a couple of months ago when I first set the ball rolling with my LA. I wanted to be registered for March. All the replies seemed to show it wouldn't be likely - I'm doing the intro course next week and then the 4 day training in Jan. And I already have all my other qualifications in place.
If you're starting from scratch I'd say, from what I've been told, it could be even longer.

it has taken me 13 months so far.

I have had ofsted come over so am now just waiting for a fire officer to come, get a good fire policy in place and then wait for my certificate to come through

Omg! Great! That's messed it all up for me then! What takes so long?

I registered over 5 years ago and it was the CRB that caused the problems. Sounds like it takes a lot longer than it used to and it was bad enough then!! :(

parker1313 · 27/11/2010 13:13

I also registered about 5 years ago but didnt keep registered. It was about 2 years ago I gave up.
It never took me that long before.
Iv had a crb check recently and it only took about 6weeks.

My CRB checks took 4 weeks - and that's considered quick.

I would give yourself at least 3 months - that's how long it took me to become registered.

My DH's CRB took well over 4 months (maybe 6), because it was sat in someone's in tray at the police station and no-one could find it!
