CM own kids and mindees have chicken pox and she's still picking up/dropping off other mindees from school. is this ok in your opinion? Poxed kids are running around interacting with other kids while waiting etc.

hmmm

are they scabbed over?

It's not ideal, depending on what stage each child is at

The HPA rec is exclude for 5 days from onset of rash, so maybe that's what's happened

If I was doing this and the children were still infectious, they would either be with me in pushchairs, or standing by my side, but I would still do the school run. It may be that they are already past the infectious stage - as ComingDownTheChimmley said.

I'll answer this in 2 parts:

  1. The actual MINDING of children whilst anyone has chicken pox....when my eldest had it, I closed as mindees hadn't all had it. Now all mindees HAVE had it, if ds2 gets it, I'll let them decide whether or not to still come (I'll refund if choose not to)

  2. Children with Chicken Pox at school......you see it all of the time when a parent has to take a CP child with them to be able to take their sibling to school. I've seen LOADS of children recently with it but I can see parents can help that, life must go on. I would NOT taken them to groups and would limit public places (only going if have no choice) but would not have them running around if I could help it and would explain to older children why they shouldn't interact with others and how they should just stay put until the infectious stage is over.

Does that help? Just my opinion of course :)

Crossed posts with others. Yes, if you can see loads of scabs and they just look bad, it could be that they aren't infectious anymore

Suckmybaubles · 23/11/2010 12:49

Nope, all kids came up with pox on the weekend! So still infectious! Also worries me as there are a few pregnant mums & a newborn about too!

I know it's difficult but forget the fact she's a childminder, I just think it's really difficult for people to not at least take their other child(ren) to school? But yes, they shouldn't be running around, that's not on and I'd (as a mum) probably keep mine outside and maybe ask a friend to pop the other one in (and as a cm, either not look after them or check that this was ok to do the same under the circumstances). Thing is, the children with CP WOULD have been contagious before any spots appeared and therefore people would have already been at risk without knowing.
