Hi
please can you share with me some of your excellent ideas?
I am doing the safeguarding unit of my NVQ lvl 3 in childcare and development.

I am being observed doing an activity which "helps children protect themselves from abuse"
I will be caring for a two year old on the day and have some ideas using puppets/teddies etc on issues around being kind and not hurting others/what to do if you are being hurt... but wondered about a story as a back up activity.

Peter And The Wolf
The duck is happy because Peter did not close the gate. The duck and the bird argue. Peter spots the cat and tells the duck and bird.
Grandfather is upset to find Peter in the meadow. Warns Peter of the Wolf danger. Grandfather took Peter home.

I'll let you read the rest of the story on the link above, if you don't know it already.

Goodness me Nannynick.....that has taken me back.
I remember being a little girl (early 70's) when I had that on a vinyl record. I listened to that often. I believe it could have been this exact recording????

Thankyou for that idea.
Today I have paid closer attention to the deeper meanings in my pre school book collection. It's amazing how I can suddenly find many now I'm looking!
I think it would be interesting to go on some sort of workshop to increase my knowledge...if such a thing exists.

The version of Peter and the Wolf I had as a child I think had a different narrator. Hard to tell. I remember it had a red label and on the reverse was Young Person's Guide to the orchestra.
The Ladybird Book from our youth is available on Ebay. Ladybird has republished it (it is on Amazon)... though not sure what changes there would be.

Fairy tales you mean? Have you seen National Geographic Kids: Brothers Grimm

The ending of Cinderella (the bit Disney missed out)
"When the wedding with the King's son had to be celebrated, the two false sisters came and wanted to get into favor with Cinderella and share her good fortune. When the betrothed couple went to church, the elder was at the right side and the younger at the left, and the pigeons pecked out one eye of each of them. Afterwards as they came back the elder was at the left, and the younger at the right, and then the pigeons pecked out the other eye from each. And thus, for their wickedness and falsehood, they were punished with blindness as long as they lived."

Fairytales and Folklore were often used in the past and still are today, to teach children. Fariy tales can be really quite nasty if you think about it - Hansel and Grethel.
