Would an au pair want this job

I am think about getting an au pair but don't know if any would to live with us as we live in a town in Gloucestershire which is about 10 miles from Bristol - is this too rural? Also do not have a massive house but could offer either a decent double room or a single with own bathroom. On the plus side not too childcare required - 1 hr in the morning Mon-Fri and up to 1 hour after school.
What do you think? Also kids are 7 (boy) and 10 (girl) so was thinking about a male au pair to play football. Do not require a driver.

Any views appreciated,
thanks.

Sounds good to me.
What are the transport links to other areas? My cousins live in similar area and only one bus per day to Bristol - think that would put au pair off.
Single with own bathroom sounds good. I'd much rather have my own bathroom and a smaller bedroom.

Hi jendifa,

Yep - I'd always go for a small bedroom with own bathroom!! Think my DD can be persuaded out though. Transport to Bristol is limited - there are buses hourly I think but takes a while and I doubt that they run late in the evening. We could provide a car but want to test the water out first really.
cheers.

I'm in a similarish position, though just thinking about it - not doing anything yet.
I'm about 10 miles out of Cambridge, buses are every hour 9takes about 30 mins) and run into the evening.
Would only have double (not with own bathroom - shared with children), and don't want to offer car.
Boys are 8 and nearly 5, don't need before or after school care really, but would like light cleaning and one (maybe two) evening babysitting, not until very late.

no help to you, but will watch thread with interest.

Hi Squirrel,

We don't need much childcare either but keep getting stuck for an odd half hour or hour as kids not quite old enough to walk home in the dark etc. Am wondering if this is a solution for a couple of years? Hopefully someone will give us some good advice Smile

I'd say an au pair is your best option, or a student. In my 1st and 2nd year of uni I lived with a family, dropped the children into school, went to uni, collected them from school and cooked their tea etc. They were 8 and 15 when I left.
That family lived in a village about an hour from Birmingham and 20 mins from Solihull (driving, although possibly about the same on the bus).
It was helpful for parents and great for me. They provided a car and all was good.

It sound well to me.
And would say that there is quite few au pairs that would be very interisted in this postion.

Thanks all, Well I think it is time to make formal enquires and see if anyone is interested. I have found out that it is easy to get a bus to college to English as a second langauge so I guess that helps.

cheers
