Dieting when nannying

So I have pretty much broken the right side of my body and have been banned from doing any kind of sport. So due to this I have whacked on a huge amount og weight in the past month (depression eating me thinks). I have been cutting down on what I eat to compensate for lack of exercise (not in a bad way I promise).

And this is where the problem lies. The DC's (my charges) have noticed me not eating as much and are commenting. After listening to me drone on and on about the evils of diets and how you should exercise, be happy, be fit, ignore the media blah blah blah, how I can I now justify to them that I am in fact on a diet? I feel very hypocritical and fat. Do I just explain to them the reason or actaully I have no other option. Any ideas?

If they comment again just say you aren't feeling very well. Could you coincide your eating so that it is at the same time as theirs? Or you can say that you're eating in the evenings now so not having so much during the day?

I went on a very strict diet a while back and was very worried that my older mindees would notice, so I made sure that I sat down with them at mealtimes and had a light meal (soup) and if they ever mentioned it I just said that I was eating a proper meal later with my DP.

Unfortunately they are aged 8 to 16 and I cook and eat dinner with them so no other option. I might just tell them the truth and eat soup. I had not thought of soup at dinner. I work looonnngg hours so I have no other option but to eat at work with them.

Have you looked at slimming world as an eating plan/diet? I've done it since march, also while nannying (and eating at work so not much control over food iyswim) and lost 2.5 stone!! Yes it is hard but perhaps easier than you think- look at it online. S World have an online plan and you can keep a food diary online so no
Need for groups if you're busy?

Smaller plate size. Tell them they are growing children and need lots of energy, whereas you have been told by the Dr that you need to cut down on amount of food.
Then it's truthful (as Dr has told you to cut down) and means you can still eat the same as them - or as near as.

If you eat quite a bit of bread and potatoes, cut those down a lot. Increase amount of other veg and fruit. Reduce amount of dairy by cutting portion size, only have fruit for pudding.

As it's Winter - soup for dinner for all could well work for one meal a week. They could have bread rolls to dunk, whereas you wouldn't.

sorry you have gained weight

i have dieted (and doing at moment) with children that i care for and never had a problem

nearly 8yr noticed and asked if i was on a diet, i replied honestly that yes i was, as i weighed too much for me and as i hurt my ankle i cant go to the gym and exercise so weight has gone on

i also said that if everyone eats a healthy balanced diet and has exercise/running about/swimming/games etc that she and her brother do, then there is no need for her to diet

i eat the same as them but vary it, ie they have a jacket with butter, i dont have butter, they have sausages and mash, i have salad with mine, they have pasta and garlic bread, i dont have the garlic bread {sad]

soup is a good option, keeps you full for longer
