Taking Mindees in someone else's car

When I was a nannying, I occasionally took my charge out in the car with my friend or with my Aunt and always with his Mum's permission.

I've only recently passed my driving test and don't have a car yet.

My friend, who is also a CM, has offered us a lift to playgroup a few times recently but I have declined her offer as I'm not sure where I / she / mindees would stand with regard to insurance. Obviously, I'd still get written permission from parents.

Does anyone know?

No, you're not insured. I've got dh insured on his car and mine JUST IN CASE as I know I'd be uninsured otherwise. Sorry :)

Shame, thanks though!

She's a far more experienced driver than I am so would be much safer. We'll stick to walking and taking the bus then Grin!

My understanding is that you are insured, as passengers, on the CM's car insurance.

Ah, right.

Sorry, missed the whole bit about her being a CM lol! As long as the other CM is definitely insured as a CM then I guess it's probably ok.

I'll give NCMA / CSSIW a call to see if it's definitely allowed and what paperwork/policy I'd have to have to cover myself/mindees/other CM.

I would think she would need business insurance, all CMs should have this but you know what it's like, sometimes it's forgotten so just make sure that she does have it before you get in the car with her.

She is fully insured to carry her own mindees, I just wasn't sure about her transporting someone else's mindees.

I'll let you know what NCMA / CSSIW say when I call them...
