How long to register?

I'm going on the info day next week and the 4 day course hopefully in December. It would be really helpful for me to be up and running - at least registered - by March 2011 because I qualify for an extra grant if I do. Any chance of that do you think? I don't need to do any extra courses, other than the registration ones.

It will depend on when your course actually starts but to be honest, you will probably take 6 months.

nooooo, really? Grrrrr, it's a £500 grant.
The course is in December.

Sorry, I've said that. It's one day a week over all of December if that makes sense.

my couse finished in June and I am still waiting.

I called OFSTED to find out what was happening and they are waiting for social services to get back to them and are waiting for my CRB check.

I received my CRB on Oct 1st so I have no idea why they are waiting for that still! I have never had any dealings with SS so that should be quite quick hopefully.

Ofsted won't come and inspect my house until all of the paperwork is in which is really annoying. Once they do come, I then have to wait for my childminding certificate to come through before i can legally start CM.

The truly annoying thing though is that I first applied to be a childminder in October 2009. It has taken 13 months so far.

Oh my, really? That's terrible.
Also terrible for me as it's an extra £500 gone and not likely to produce any income when my degree finishes in June 2011.

It was Plan B as I'm fairly newly a LP. Looks like I need to find a Plan C

It's normally the crb check which takes the longest, so try and get that started asap. Also get a first aid course organised - maybe through your local authority. Look at the draft policies on the NCMA website and start work on yours. You will still be lucky to be done by March though.

SuePurblybilt · 04/11/2010 17:27

I am crb-d up to the hilt - work in the local school, teach and my degree is Early years so do work placements. The last one to be done in October (I have lots Grin) only took just over a week amazingly. So maybe I'll be lucky. I have the first aid and everything else up to date for the same reasons so it's literally just the registration courses I have to do.

as a nanny I too have several CRB checks but ofsted still wanted a new one. They were happy with my first aid so that didn't need to be done again. The fact that I received my ofsted CRB on oct 1st and ofsted still don't have a copy is really annoying.

I think it is really silly that they won't inspect my house until all of their paperwork is in when they know how long some of these bits take.

So I haver to wait ages for the CRB and SS and then wait for ofsted to fit me into their diary and then have to wait again for my registration certificate to come through. Grrrr

And then if something niggly needs doing to the house it'll be another few weeks no doubt.
It's not looking good.

The registration target used to be 12 weeks (was when I worked for Ofsted in 03) but even back then that target was not always met. So can't imagine things have changed that much... there are things that can delay the process, such as the SS check which Ofsted have no control over.

Get the registration form in as soon as you are able... so the timer starts ticking.

of a group of 4 of us who started the process in january 2010, we completed the course and sent of the application to ofsted in may 2010, one of the group got her registration within 10 weeks (all checks done and fully registered with ofsted). 2 got theirs in august 2010 and i got mine last week. the time frames vary hugely and for no apparent reason.
