Childminders - bank holiday charges - quick question!

DD2 starts with a childminder tomorrow. I have never used a CM before and after reading through the contract I - well DH - has a quick question about her charges.

It says that on a Bank Holiday we will be charged full fees even though she's closed. DD is only going 2 4hour sessions a week (one session is on a Monday) and DH thinks that being charged for a session we don't use isn't right.

TBH it doesn't really apply to us as we have a term time only contract and so apart from May Day all other bank holidays are in school holidays (I think!)

So is DH right? Should I question it or is this normal for a CM contract?

It's something that should be discussed before the contract is signed. I don't work BH and don't charge, but I know other CMs that do charge. It is up to you to negotiate with your CM on an individual basis.

Sorry, not much help.

I also dont charge bank hols as I am unwilling to work them. I would discuss this with her but I will say if she is using a NCMA contract and she is charging the day the contract states she must be available to work

Thank you I might mention it to her tomorrow there again as it's unlikely to affect us it may not be worth it.

I do charge for public holidays and dont work them but not for any other holidays, so as you can see each CMs contract is differant. If she is ideal in all other ways and it only affects you once a year is this really a deal breaker?

dont forgot christmas boxing day and new year day move every year
and this year
because christmss is on sat
the following monday and tue are bank hoildays and the next monday is also off as bank hoilday for new year day

I charge for BH's but don't work it, if I do work it it's double pay.

GailFawkes · 03/11/2010 10:46

Christmas won't affect us as DD is only on a term time contract so she wouldn't be with the CM then anyway. Decided not to bring it up.

I have not worked a bank hols. If I did I would charge £1 extra per hour.

One of my little ones comes on mon and Wed. I give her parents the choice if they want me to work £1 extra per hour if they do not then I dont charge. Thats my treat to the parents using my services.

Everyone cm is different.
