You could try nanny agency. Some will do emergency cover - not cheap expect to pay around 8.50 an hour plus twenty pound to agency who arrange it. Otherwise start looking on sites like gumtree to find own temp babysitter till you get sorted.

Funky2sarah · 31/10/2010 19:42

hi there

lol - i am a nanny! cant afford to pay that out sadly..only CM rates and defo not agency fees!
have already scoured childcare.co.uk for a CM, just waiting for responses
thanks!

if you are a nanny could you not (perhaps as a one off) take your child to work with you?

CarGirl · 31/10/2010 20:42

I will ask my friend who is a cm if she knows anyone with that sort of space

Funky2sarah · 31/10/2010 20:52

mmmmm you dont know my family - they dont do change very well!! lol xx

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/10/2010 21:00

Bummer :(

maybe ask your family if you can bring for a few weeks while you sort out childcare and offer a reduced rate

Funky2sarah · 31/10/2010 21:09

hey blondes - any more reduced and i might as well throw in the towel now.!! They have just cut my hrs and pay and am on the min that pays my bills.(confused)

its not money thats the issue, she cant cope with the end of day when she comes in and its her 2, my DS would send her over the edge!! lol

Perhaps you should start looking at childminding yourself!

Did you check out Doodles II in New Haw to see if they had space on a Monday?

CarGirl · 31/10/2010 21:14

Funky2sarah · 31/10/2010 21:19

thanks cargirl...will give a try tomorrow.

as for the CM myself - i dont have a car and quite frankly the red tape and paper work, restrictions on my home life really dont work for me!
I have been a nanny for 15yrs plus....

I think you need to look for another job tbh, how much do you actually earn now ph?

littleducks · 31/10/2010 21:23

whereabouts are you?

onadietcokebreak · 31/10/2010 21:25

Oh Funky2sarah. I was on your other thread.

How awful.

I would ring CM up and explain what a situation she has left you in. Ask if she belongs to a network.

Please dont be put off by paperwork and lack of vehicle. CMing could be for you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/10/2010 21:26

Surely if you are not paying the cm £3/4/5ph then surely you can afford to drop your wage by that an hour iyswim

again if mum comes home, don't you go home so what is the problem having your ds there for a few mins

may be worth asking - you have got nothing to lose

salsarocks · 31/10/2010 21:26

I had similar problem last week. Used emergency childcare.com. They were really good. Only thing is you pay a £50 registration fee but the nursery said if I had phoned them direct wouldn't have needed to pay.

Funky2sarah · 31/10/2010 21:31

well, this one is a 30/40 min walk away and about the furthest I can walk with a 2 yr old! ( as I have no car!)

trust me I have spent the last 2 yrs since I had him ,looking for a full time job that he can come with me to!

I do have flex cover as and when the GPS schedule allows but many families dont seem to want to be flex back!
I offer longer hrs than i used to, more household family duties.

So im trying......

ps dont really want to reveal wages, dont think its relevant to my current CM situation!

CarGirl · 31/10/2010 21:34

I just wondered if it would be worth the negatives to CM as most around here charge £6 per child minimum.

Funky2sarah · 31/10/2010 21:50

thanks for those good points!

onadietcoke - hmmm,i appreciate what your saying, but I really cant be stuck in with 3 or 4 kids, cant offer school pick ups/drop offs, cant go to groups, meet friends at soft play or go to the park...public transport round here is not good and quite frankly thats another restriction that drives me mad! How can I possibly offer flex childcare myself without a car?!

lol- she took 3 weeks to decide if he could come 1 afternoon a week - it was like getting blood out of a stone!

Most CMS round here charge between £4-£6 per hr - thats quite a bit LESS than I get now nett/hr....

littleducks am in new haw,woking

CarGirl · 31/10/2010 21:53

If you minded 2 children then that is £12 per hour and you look after your dc too???

Are you actually in New Haw because there are quite a few toddler/baby groups in that area and you could always do one trip to Woking per week on the train?

I agree the buses are dreadful though.

littleducks · 31/10/2010 21:55

Am north london so cant help you out! sorry

Have you considered learning to drive? is it a money thing (it costs tonnes) or have you found it tricky in the past?

Funky2sarah · 31/10/2010 22:07

haha little ducks!!
thats the frustrating thing i can drive...just dont have the funds to buy a second car at the mo!

cargirl - that £12 is gross and I wouldnt feel comfortable charging £6 when there would be big restrictions on the service I provide and also as new CM I dont think its good business sense to charge full whack! I have friends that go everywhere, farms/parks/meet at each others for coffee...i would be bored rigid with the same old routine, thats why I nanny, no 2 weeks are the same!
I certainly dont have the funds to buy a new laptop, printer, stationary, new car, new storage solutions, stair gates, fence off my garden so dog doesnt go to the loo in kiddy bit, dont have anywhere for kids coats to hang on named pegs...need I go on!

x :)

Walking 3 kids to west byfleet from me would take at least 40 mins, no fun especially as we approach winter!

littleducks · 31/10/2010 22:12

Aaargh! How frustrating

Hope it works out for you

Funky2sarah · 31/10/2010 22:13

thank you!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/10/2010 23:10

Tbh the one thing that REALLY sets you back is not having a car

if you had one you would have more choice of jobs as then could drive 30mins in each direction for a job thus wideing your option to maybe taking your own dc with you

I know not everyone can find say £1500 but I would try either by taking a loan/adding to mortgage/ put on interest credit card etc

and buy a 2nd little car - fords are good value for money

Hopefully you will then have a better paid job to pay the loan etc off

sometimes you have to spend to make iyswim (trust me I know - dh is se and to set up his business we needed a loan plus when his strimmer went wrong he had to buy a new one at over £1k Shock

I kept sayig you can buy a car for that - but without it his business suffered so had to sort out a way to buy it

hope I havnt offended - I know money doesn't grow on trees ( if only) just trying to help :)

CarGirl · 01/11/2010 10:35

Another great car to pick up 2nd hand is a nissan micra mechanic rates them as going on forever and you just need to check for rust to the bar at the front of the engine when you lift the bonnet and look straight down.

Small cars of Addlestone is an okay place and I managed fine with a 3 door version - even had isofix!

Perhaps it's worth seeing how quickly you could achieve either saving up or taking out a loan. I know it's really hard but your current employers seem to being taking the p* a bit by reducing your hours and salary and not letting you take your ds with you when you're really stuffed.

I do agree that the paperwork and hassle of childminding makes nannying far more attractive.

Look for a new job that would allow you to bring ds? Any openings in Weybridge as you could get there on the train?

Sorry help your current situation though does it!
