I've been a childminder before (2005-2009) but at the time was living with son's dad who was working FT, I was cm'ing FT, and the house was mortgaged.

How do you find it?

People are often asking me if I would do it again, if I did it would be part time rather than full time.

Do I have to ask landlord's permission?

I am on income support and carer's allowance at the minute- if I am not being too nosey how do your finances work out?

Do you have ebough hours in the day? DS is at school now but he is autistic and currently refusing to stay overnight with his dad.

In some ways it would make sense for me to go back into childminding, in other ways I think Confused. Looked after friends toddler two days last week as a favour and loved it and it's made me consider it as a real option.

yes you have to get landlord's permission. i am in the process of being registered so not yet CMing so can't help you wrt your finances question. if your son is at school could you take mindees for half days? i know this might be difficult to come across but it is possible. i am single parent, private rening and currently on IS so will watch this with interest.

I am a LP, currently registering and rent from a HA and I haven't even approached them yet. I would say you have to ask, for one thing you'll know yourself you may have to add locks etc.

i think there is something about the landlord's liability insurance although i am aware that CM insurance will cover any injuries that happen on the property. not really sure, sorry.

Not single and don't rent but did used to childmind from a shared ownership property (half mortgage, half rent to council) and I needed permission - they gave it.

Good luck if you go for it :)

Thanks for all these replies. Smile I miss working very much at the moment but even when jobs come up that are the right hours I am aware there isn't any suitable childcare for DS!

A few cms pick up from his school, one is lovely but always has lots of mindees - good for her but not suitable for DS who would find it unbearable. One is off on maternity leave in Jan, and one is unprofessional

I think I may go see lone parent advisor and ask them for advice regarding how it would affect my benefits.
