What would be a fair live in wage for a nanny in scotland doing 10hour days?

Thanks

Nanny's profile?
Babysit included?

Anything from £250gross for someone straight out of college to double that for someone with plenty of relevant qualifications and experience.

Are there similar jobs being advertised that might help you get an idea?

SimpleAsABC · 13/10/2010 19:41

Nope, hence my post on here. Tried gumtree and nanny job, nannyjob has one position, in a castle that quotes 1000 per week for 40 hours.

5 years childcare experience inc sole charge nannying of multiples, degree qualified (childcare). Great refs?

Thanks

Lol I saw that one! 52 rooms right?

£400-425 gross? Works out to approx £6.50 net per hour, £325 net?

That's roughly what live in jobs in the North and Wales specifying 5 years exp are going for having had a quick skim. Lots of the agencies are stating neg salaries, which is really irritating!

SimpleAsABC · 13/10/2010 19:56

Thanks, the neg salaries thing was what I was finding too.

So for the same nanny... live out?

My general rule of thumb for live out is add £50-100 gross. Admittedly that seems to be the difference in London but it reflects roughly that you pay rent, food, bills and commuting.

So £450-500 gross, making it £9-10/hour.

frakkinstein · 13/10/2010 20:19

This is all just my opinion/extrapolation though. Are there no jobs with agencies giving a salary range? Although they'll probably quote net...

SimpleAsABC · 13/10/2010 20:20

Thank you :) live out is as I thought, most positions in the area are upwards of 8.50 - 9.00 atm.

Live in I was less sure of.

The castle advert threw me. Do you think the rate was a typo?

Nope I think it's an HP family with other staff stuck on an island who have trouble keeping nannies!

SimpleAsABC · 14/10/2010 17:23

Hmm. Interesting! I wouldn't have thought there would be SUCH high profile families in Orkney though.. not that I know anything of Orkney tbh!

Hi everyone, Im a nanny looking for work, and i think its safe to say you could pay a person pretty much what you thought fair, as it is getting hard at the moment getting a job.

frakkinstein · 15/10/2010 04:25

Google Balfour Castle. If they can own that then I'd say they were pretty well off (which translates to demanding employers IME).

SimpleAsABC · 15/10/2010 15:51

good thinking frakkinstein :) but for 1000 a week???!!!

frakkinstein · 15/10/2010 16:42

Gross, though, isn't it?

That's, what, £700 net?

SimpleAsABC · 15/10/2010 17:13

i think that seems a lot though, demanding or not!

It depends where you compare it to though. If you think of it as a job in Scotland, then yes. It's at the high end of the scale for London. But for overseas (and yeah, you're in the UK but you're stuck on an island) that's not unheard of. It's not even the highest I've seen.

Tis all relative really.

SimpleAsABC · 15/10/2010 19:12

Agree completely. just hadn't thought about it like that. THIS is why i love mumsnet!
