A local nanny agecy in south east london is telling me that i will have to pay a flat fee of £200 (and that is a special offer they state) I am a new mum going back to work in jan so all this nanny stuff is new to us. They have aleady sent me loads of cv's to sort thorugh but slight concerned about the fee.

anyone else used an agency? paid a placemnt fee? is this too much?

Sorry don't oftern come on here. Thanks for all your advice.

The £2oo norm that butterfly nannies are asking for is a special offer they have running on placement fees at the moment. Found it in baby london magazine.(3 or 4x salary as nannynick mentioned}
I also called the london nanny comp and they want £2000! Wellington nannies forget it!

I have checked out both these comps out all seem ok and are both are a registered comp.
I have today interviewd 2 of the nannies they forwarded to me , and they are really good. Just didn't realise it cost so much :0(

I have tried gumtree and all that and nothing but rubbish really.
I don't have the time to do all the checks myself.

Trying to see if I can find cheaper somewhere else :0)

Thanks again

How come they are only wanting £200? Their website says the special offer is 3 x Nannies Weekly Net Salary for a Live-Out nanny. PLUS VAT... at whatever the rate is at the time you hire the nanny.

Is this a 1-day per week nanny... or maybe an after-school only nanny? I'm wondering how you have got the figure so low... as a live-out nannies salary could easily be £100+ per day.

£200 sounds very cheap... so as you have interviewed 2 nannies already and feel they are good... double check with the agency the total fee that would be due if you hired one of them.

@dawn82
Sorry, are you looking to find a nanny agency that charges you less than £200? Which agencies have you checked? London Nanny Company and Wellington Nannies?

dawn82 · 15/10/2010 17:57

Hi nannynice, it was a special offer i found in a magazine, think it was baby london. They have had a few offers on placemnts fees and the babysitting ssevice.
Its a nanny 5 days a week i need. offer valid till end of the year. I see they haev offers on the orcal dulwich local too.
Their news letter they sent me states they have special offers on their blog from time to time.
They girls were great, due to interview another tomorrow am. then will decided.
Have checked the fee with them after seeing your message and they have emaled it over to me. Specail offer on placement fee of a flat fee of £2oo.

@NJE yes i was kind of hoping that i may find another agency that has a similar offer, may be £100!
I have ramg a numeber of nanny agebcies and most over the £500 mark! london nanny company, wellington, country nannies, aberviele nannies and too expensive.
Scared of goimg the gumtree route.

Sounds like a bargain then - if you like the candidates, take them up on the offer.

Ewe · 15/10/2010 18:14

£200 is ridiculously cheap, you should go for it! Most agencies charge 10-15% of annual salary. I would be amazed if you found anything cheaper and if they have sent you two great candidates then you're getting an excellent deal.

dawn82 · 19/10/2010 09:03

Yes very happy and have employed a nanny.
I spent all weekend reference checking the butterfly nannies nanny and all great.
Your right didn't find any cheaper.

Very please with the nanny and the service from the agency.
If anyone needs a nanny or babysitter Hannah was my contact there, and very helpful.

Not really advertising for the agency.lol

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/08/2012 16:11

plus thread is almost 2 years old

wonder if op managed to find a nanny through an agency for less then £200

NotAChocolateRaisin · 13/08/2012 17:30

Most agencies I've dealt with charge 6 times the agreed weekly pay for the employed nanny plus VAT.
eg. You have a nanny for 400pw = charge of £2880

firstclassmaternitycare · 11/12/2013 18:54

They are only after the expensive agency fee

LoveSewingBee · 11/12/2013 19:01

A lot of the agencies face massive costs recruiting nannies, checking their references, matching them with clients.

So to suggest that they just charge a lot of money for doing nothing really is a bit stupid. They work hard for their money, like you probably do, like many people do.
