I need someone to take care of my nearly 6 yr old son for about 4 hours every Wednesday term time while I am at lectures and DH is on his way home from work.

Help.... Ironically I am a childminder in need of childcare!! Hours would be from 3.30pm to about 8.30pm.

I am in Woking and on public transport route.

Does anyone have any ideas where i can start looking (I tried NM but no luck)

Have you a local college near you, that does child care courses?
If so, you may be able to employ a student.

After school club?

Have you tried Gumtree etc?

Could anyone in his class help you out for the 13th?

Numberfour · 05/10/2010 16:18

He could go to after school club til 5.45 then would need picking up and keeping or bringing home and staying with him til 8.

Local college sounds like a good idea! and had not thought of Gumtree either!
Thanks, Molly and Frakkin.

5.45 might be more manageable than the school pick-up. Maybe one of the assistants/playworkers could be asked (assuming it's allowed) to do it.

Also most childcare students will have finished placement by that time so will be more likely to be able to help out.

Numberfour, if you find someone from a college, please let me know which one! I am in the West Byfleet area and looking for after-school care from Jan for my sons. I called Brooklands as they run childcare courses but apparently the students there don't finish until 4.45/5 p.m. so too late for me.

Going to after-school club sounds a good idea. Then you could perhaps find someone local who would in effect babysit for the other 2 or so hours. After-school club would need to be in walking distance of your home, if the person doesn't have a car.

Have you tried contacting people on Childcare.co.uk - may not match exactly what they want but you never know you may find someone who would do it. Use the Advanced Search option to limit search radius to say 2 miles, so you get people local to you.

I will do, Annh. I will ring Guildford tomorrow. I had a look at Woking College but it does not seem to have a childcare "department".

Nannynick, thanks for your advice, too. I had a look at Childcare.co.uk and will do so more in depth a bit more. The A'School club is not quite walking distance esp in a winter's evening. But I heard today of a babysitter a very short walk away from school who may not have a car, but could perhaps keep DS at hers til I or Dh collect

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

I will let you know how my search progresses!

Annh, I have not called Guildford College yet, but my advert on Gumtree seems to be working!
I have had a few replies and am following up on them.

What about Sitters? they offer daytime babysitters.

mollymax · 10/10/2010 12:41

With sitters you may not get the same sitter every time. I work for sitters, and am not always available when requested.
