My daughter needs to go to A&e to have stitches on a cut- can my nanny take her or will the hospital refuse to treat her unless a parent is with my daughter? I am at work...

I have taken charges to A&E as a nanny when needed. They asked lots of questions (mainly had the parents been informed) but their priority was treating the child.

I don't see why not, as a childminder i have taken Mindees to the doctors when they weren't well.

Great thanks!

Yes. In future leave a letter with nanny authorising her to consent to emergency medical treatment in your absence. You can say in that they can phone you if necessary but that sometimes you're not available, so nanny is in loco parentis.

I've never had a problem with charges in A&E for stitches, X-rays or in one case a lumbar puncture!

Yes but like frak I have a signed letter from day one of employment authorising me to be able to consent to medical treatment.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/09/2010 11:51

I also have a letter saying I have complete authority to allow any medical procudures/anastethics etc if unable to contact the parents

StillSquiffy · 29/09/2010 13:11

Same with us - the DC's 'red books' have authorisation letters stapled into them, and the books are kept in the kitchen in case of emergencies.

Hope your DD is ok.

I have a letter but most times trips to the hospital have happened no where near said letter.

The hospitals never bat an eyelid over me taking them. As long as you know all the relevant details you will be fine.

nannyl · 29/09/2010 17:49

Yes its fine

i have taken my ex charge... his parents were away out of the country, i was proxy parenting, but grandma has my charge for the day and he managed to cut his chin open with her!

Bucharest · 29/09/2010 17:52

I have taken kids as a teacher and no questions were asked. Hope dd is OK!

nameymcnamechange · 29/09/2010 17:56

I would have thought so.

Can you leave work and meet them there?
