Hi,

My 15 month old son attends a nursery during the day. I work 1-2 night shifts per month. As hubby is away for the next four months, we need someone to look after him during those nights. As he does not sleep very well I am vary of getting anyone to look after him. We have had a couple of girls before, but it did not work well as they wanted to sleep well for their next days' work. Any advice would be gratefully receievd.

This is something i have done before and would more than happily do again. I work part time and i am also a Mum to a 2yr old who often wakes, so am very used to the waking nights and am still able to function during the next day!

I am sure you will find someone no problem as its only a few night a month rather than per week.

Thanks kkey21

Where do you live? I work part-time too!

If you pay proper hourly rates rather than just 'overnight' rates then the disturbed sleep should not be an issue. But yes, you do need to find someone who works part time or flexibly and wouldn't have an issue with waking up occasionally.

It is a bit difficult - my nanny has done a few overnights in a row, and she has been completely exhausted by the end of it because she isn't able to be woken up and then go back to sleep easily. Knowing this she books a day off after it so she can get some rest (time off in lieu on a day of her choice).

Mothers, on the other hand..... if you dont' learn to get back to sleep you dont' get ANY sleep so it's a skill that's developed rather rapidly! Grin
