Sick pay

My nanny has had to go off sick for the next 3 weeks. We will continue to pay her the full salary while she is off sick, but it just occured to me that we might be entitled to a small percentage of it back from the Government, because of Statutory Sick Pay. Is this right? Does anyone have any experience of this?

No experience of this... but E14 appears to be the helpsheet from HRMC.

There is a bit in that about Offsetting SMP with Pay. Also about Recovering SMP.

Not sure how it works when you are paying full salary.

Do you use a payroll company? If so, ask them. If not, contact HMRC Employer helpline and see if they can tell you.

Yes, you should get some of this back although neither the calculation of SSP itself nor the amount that is reclaimable is trivial as you will see from the guide NN linked to - I think the reclaiming calculation is on page 17 out of the 47 (!) pages in the guide.

If you use payroll software (but NOT the HMRC CD ROM or online calculation which doesn't meet HMRC's own accreditation standards) or an online service it will do the calculations for you.

Ah, you should just have to give them the dates and the software they use will do all the hard work.
