What would you do in this situation?

I nanny/pa/half arsed housekeep for 4 children. Both parents work full time. I work on average a 14 hour day (kids are at school but still have lots to do during the day).

My boss has invitied a friend and her two children as well as another two children to stay during half term. This means I will be cooking for 12, washing for 12, and looking after an extra 4 children.

I am not happy.

Would you as nannies ask for more pay and how much?

As employers of nannies, would you pay more and how much?

I did wonder, your op gave that impression. One minute your a nanny, the next your running a bloody guest house! I bet it was lots of little things that you would have been unreasonable to say no to, but have now added up to a huge amount of extra work!

"In any other job if you are given extra duties then you are reconpensated for it "

Not in my experience.

However, I did not say just do it. I said the duties were okay so long as the h ours do not change. If you are accepting work which is beyond your contractual hours and not saying anything, then you have a communication problem. If you are saying something and your employer is refusing, then they are bad employers.

What I said was focus on the impact to your hours and address that issue.

That's the problem with the 'give and take' theory. In my experience the nanny ends up doing all the giving and it very quickly just becomes an assumption.
Starts off with one thing and becomes a whole other job description very quickly and you end up coerced into staying because the market is not brilliant.
If your boss is reasonable can you discuss it. If she is not as has been hinted at and I was really unhappy in the role anyway I'd be handing in my notice. You're contracted to look after your charges not every Tom Dick and Harry's kids they invite to stay.

I am leaving anyway in December. Houseguests are ok when the kids are at school but it is over half term.
Not much I can do now. People are invited.
Live and learn.
