Overnight Care?

Has anyone registered for overnight care?

I want to but DH is not too keen on the idea. I think it would be a good idea so that I can keep all options open. I am not registered yet but a friend completed her registration recently and can provide overnight care, she said something that made me think twice. When her registration was completed, a person from the local Family Information Service visited her and said that not many childminders register for overnight care and that it is common for the local authority to place children with such childminders for 'emergency fostering', obviously for short periods.

Is this common? Has anyone experienced this?

I am not sure

sorry, what I was trying to say was that I am not sure I am comfortable with this.

I would be a little worried that your dh not on board with the idea.. especially if you may have a troubled child for emergency fostering.. think you both have to be happy about it really. iyswim

its not something i would consider doing, minding in the day is enough of an impact on my family(nice way generally) but couldnt do nights as well... good luck though..

I am registered for overnight, I had a mindee 6 nights a week for 3 months, it was very hard in the beginning, she was only 9 months old and breastfed, I weaned her off the breast. I have decided not to take care of babies at night time, it is too distressing for them. My DC didnt mind having a baby in their room they were quite excited, and DH was a bit annoyed in the beginning with all the screaming, but got ok after.

I thought I'd never want to do it but my now 3.7yr old mindee's mum asked me when they were about 5 months old and said it would be pretty regular for nights out and stuff so I thought about the extra money. THEY set the rate at £70 per night so I was quite happy! :) But I wouldn't have done it unless my own family were on board. I do have mindees overnight each month but nothing for a set regular day or anything. I personally would only do it for mindees and no way can FIS make me be used for emergency fostering etc. I MAY consider that but tbh, I work 11 hours every day, Mon-Fri and I wouldn't want children I didn't know on top of that. This mindee and another who stays overnight (up to 4 days in a row in my care) have both been with me since they were 8 weeks old and I know them inside out and they have a good routine. I wouldn't want to be up all night and then work the next day - wouldn't be fair on other mindees for me to be so tired.

Anyway, I say it can be good extra bonus money but you need to have the family on side. Maybe as you're just registering, you could register for overnight care JUST IN CASE you decide to offer it - it's easier than having to call them out another time if you decide to offer it :)

Yes I agree with looneytune better to
get registered for overnight just incase. I didn't get registered at first then I had the whole palaver of Ofsted coming back out.
