Hi mn's I am about to start a child minding course.
I am completely new to this(although have worked as a childrens rep many years ago)my main job in the past has been in skincare/make-up.
I have 2 ds's aged 2 years and 11weeks.
Been told the course is only £100 to do(and it takes 7 weeks).
Was wondering if there are any hidden expenses involved?Do I have to be a wonderful cook?
Do I have to be able to drive?(Just passed my theory test-still need to pass practical).
And one last question-is there any money to be made in child minding?
Thankyou for readingSmile

Thanks HRH-it's a pre-registration child minding course in the borough of Redbridge.
Different borough's must have different rules or have I just contacted the wrong peopleConfused
Thanks for reply.

Six months-that sounds great for me!
Only thing I worry about is spending a fortune when starting out(insurance,up to date indoor and outdoor toys, travel cots etc)!
And heard about constant paperwork!
Thanks HrhSmile

Hrh-sorry I know I keep asking questions but what exactly does all of this paper entail?
You work hard-doesn't sound easy!
Thanks again.

Word of warning - childminders are given "conditions of registration" that limit the number of children they can care for at any one time. These are usually no more than six under 8yos, of whom no more than three can be under full-time school age and of whom no more than one can be under 1yo. Your own children have to come out of these numbers, so with yours you could then only have one more preschool age child during the day and maybe some before/after school kids around the edges. You have to take into consideration whether that makes it a viable job for you depending on your family financial situation.

Childminders are regulated by Ofsted - you might find some useful information on their website, along with the National Childminding Association.
