childminding

I am having a difficult time finding a suitable childminder for my dd as I have left the arrangements too late. This has got me thinking that there must be a need for childminders in my area. I am a primary school teacher and can imagine how difficult the job must be and I have considered the paperwork that is necessary to become a childminder. The lingering question in my mind is how difficult a job is childminding and am I being foolish for even considering it!!

No you are not foolish. I a have been childminding for two years now.

I am very fussy about what I want for my kids and I also ensure that I give the very best service to those who use my services.

What are your requiremnets for a childminder to look after you dd? Why do you think it is too late?

If you would like to do childminding it worth going to a induction meeting and see if you want to do childminding.

I find that with four kids of my own I need a lot of flexibility and also I love being at home. I childmind five.

i am sure that other childminders will give their advice shortly.

Its not difficult Wink

It takes over your life- its all I ever think about.
It takes over your house and garden.
Work, and therefore income is not guaranteed.
Paperwork is time consuming and it will eat into your family time.
The registration process can be long- anything from a few months to 6 months.
Parents are usually lovely, but you need to consider if you mind your home being open to people you might not normally mix with (same for your children).
You work alone for the majority of the time- you can be lonely and feel isolated.

Having said all that, it is the best job in the world so why don?t you call the FIS and find out when the next briefing is taking place.

thanks both... Stomp, your reasons are exactly my concerns. At least now (with supply teaching) I can walk in and do a good day's work but walk out again.

Mum2bless... I've found it's too late because I can't find a childminder for my dd!!! My husband is arranging his work around mine and I don't know how long this will be able to continue.

I didn't realise that it could take so long to get started though. That's something to think about.
