Just wanted to know if any childminders did childminding in the evenings? ie till 11pm!

If you childmind in evenings is this now baby sititng? How much do you charge?

Do you do it in your home? or in the childs home/

Had an enquiry

If you do evenings does this affect your registration?

Thanks [SMILE]

I was told by my LA last night that anything between 6pm and 2am is babysitting and not childminding, therefore it has nothing to do with registration/ofsted :)

no way would I work those hours, no matter how hard up I was - DH would leave me!!!

I used to do it for a family but I would take the child to their house and put them to bed often staying over but I added nanny insurance to my childminding ins.
I did ring ofsted about doing both and they told me that if I did more hours nannying than childminding I was to let them know and they would then inspect me as a nanny as well as a childminder.
I charged nanny rates when I got to their house. So financially I was much better off.

Babysitting from 6pm to 2am in the child's own home surely? If you are not registered for overnight care then you can't do it in your own home.
If you are having the child until 11pm, make sure you charge 'unsocial hours' fee!

I personally wouldn't do those hours in my own home as I feel it would be unfair on the child to have to get up at 11pm to go home. I'm registered for overnight care and often have mindees staying over. Anything else would be babysitting in their home and my hourly rate is more than double.

i have started babysitting at night in the childs home (not a minded child) i take my daughter with me. i phoned care commission to check that if i offered to have the children over night at my house if i would need to register for overnight childminding. they said as long as the parents know that is it babysitting and they arent under the impression its childminding then i would not have to register as they take nothing to do with babysitting. they said they only problem that may occur was is if i babysat a minded child and the parent classed it as childminding rather than babysitting but obviously i would make all this very clear that it was babysitting and not childminding

That's interesting, is this the same with Ofsted I wonder?

The 6pm to 2am rule applies in England, not sure about elsewhere. So a Childminder registered for Overnight Care is really only registered for 2am to 6pm - which are Childminding Hours. The 6pm to 2am is unregulated - though check with your insurer regarding any conditions they may have for providing insurance cover during that time.
That is if you provide the care at Your home.

If you care for the child at the child's home... then you are a nanny (or babysitter).
