Employing nanny on an ad hoc basis - what are the rules?

Hoping someone can help me. I have met a nanny who I would like to look after my two children 2-3 days a month. Dates would be agreed in advance - but I need cover for when my mum is unable to look after my children.

What are the laws relating to this? The Nanny is registered with nanny tax - so happy to pay through that if I needed to. But what about things like sick pay and holiday. How does it work on an ad hoc basis?

Any advice would be much appreciated. I have never employed a nanny before so am completely at a loss!

She has a regular nanny job already working 4 days a week.

Thanks

Vicki

Should add - not sure if it is relevant but I'll probably be paying £11 an hour - which works out to around £100 a day.

She is not OFSTED registered - but is happy to look into it. So could possibly pay in vouchers...

I think you can also register with nannytax or any other PAYE scheme as her (your nanny's) 2nd employer. If you know it will definately be 2-3 days work per month you can base her salary/contract on that and then anything extra, just put down as overtime.

I could be completely wrong but didn't want to read and run!

Phone a few nanny agencies or PAYE scheme companies explaining the situation and hopefully they can advise you on the best solution.

Can recommend some for you to contact if need be.

Hope you get it sorted!
