Do you have a file of information, like policies and procedures, contracts, crb etc?

At what point do you ask parents to sign the contract? Before/after settling in sessions?

I have a welcome pack with information about me and my setting. All the policies, certificates, ofsted report, insurances, crb forms, which the parents are welcome to take away and look at at their leisure. They then usually come back again for any other questions, or to sign up, THEN I do settling sessions, as I need all the contract, permission forms signed before I can care for them anyway.

I have a folder with information about my self/setting, policies and letters from old parents for them to look through. I give them a leaflet to take home with my photo in it (so they can remember me- just in case they are visiting dozens of childminders)it has my opening hours, phone no, address etc etc and my charges. If they decide they want to use me we do the contract and paperwork, they get a copy of all my policies, then they get two free visiting sessions, then a 4 week settling in period. I never take on anyone without paperwork in place and the first 4 weeks money up-front.
