When do I need to start looking for a nanny?

Hi there, first post in this section!

I am expecting twins in late Feb and will be looking for childcare after about 2 months, so probably beginning of May. Looking at prices round us (central London) I think a nanny is likely to be a better option than a nursery.

Have I already left it too late to start advertising?! How far in advance do nannies tend to look? Part of me thinks there's no point until they arrive, but then I wonder if that will be enough time (particularly in sleep deprived state) to sort everything out.

Any tips?!

Thanks

Many nannies have just a month or 2 notice period, so i suspect that you're going to have to wait until they are born.

Are you going to use an agency? If so you could always call them and ask when they would recommend.

Ah, that makes me feel a bit more relaxed, thanks! I was reading about 9 month+ waiting lists for popular nurseries and feared I had missed the boat already!

i would advise at least 3mths before you need a nanny to look

a month to sort out interviews, check ref, have 2nd interviews, offer job and sort out contract then a lot of nannys have 6/8weeks in their contract

you can certianly interview while are heavily pregnant but i wouldnt decide/offer any jobs till your twins are born
