Middle of the day school run options

Hi All,

Our son starts at a new nursery in a couple of weeks and we need to arrange a pick up at 1145 to take him to his other child care (Cambridge). I used to do this (when it was a later time - over lunch) but a short notice change of nursery end time makes it v. difficult for me to do the school run as it would mean leaving work at 1115 which is a bit of a non-start as I work 9-6. Nearest family is 2 hours away so can't help Sad.

We've looked into taxis etc but wanted to ask others for advice on what our other options might be. Would a nanny/childminder be interested in middle of the day slot like this or would we be forced to go for a full time nanny - the cost of which horrifies me as I found out that a friend paid nearly 30K p.a. for his! My wife works and she has a very inflexible employer and she cannot even get out of the office at lunch to help.

Any suggestions welcome!

Yours mildly paniced! Shock

Well you could pay a childminder all day and she would look after your child if it was an inset day or preschool was closed for any reason as well as doing the pick up

or you could use an all day nursery?

What is your other childcare?

We have a pre-school attached to a school my son will attend (full time) next year but they only do half days (at pre-school stage). The rest of the time he goes to his old nursery (which does all day if need be) but the issue is more the logistics of collecting and dropping off between the two nurseries in the middle of the day.

Can't you use one nursery for the full day?

Well if you moved to a childminder they would do all day iyswim
they would collect, give lunch and look after at their house until you picked up
might be a less stressful situation than two preschool environments

Happy for any recommendations of how to get a good child minder in the Cambridge area also! He/she may also be able to help with holiday child minding which is going to be a big issue soon as my eldest is starting reception in Sept.

You're probably better getting an afternoon nanny that will pick your son up at 11.45, and forget about the second nursery, they could then pick up your other child after school too.
It'll be about £8/9 hour plus tax
