Residential school holiday activities/music school

Hi all,

I am looking for suggestions for residential school holiday activities.
My daughter is 11 and has, for many years, done the typical half term activities (leisure centre/council run clubs, childminder, PGL, etc). However I am looking for her to do something " a little bit different and something which will stimulate her mind".
She's an active girl, taking part in Girl Guides, judo, gymnastics, plays the flute, guitar and piano and loves reading.
Ideally she would like to attend a residential music school where she can take her instruments, receive lessons and have fun with others with similar interests. Or, she would like to take part in a young girls retreat, or residential reading week or similar.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I appreciate that this sounds like a very snobby request, however it was a suggestion my daughter made and I thought I would look into it.
Any help would be really appriciated.
Thanks in advance.

area ? and budget?

pridentity · 31/08/2010 21:22

I would prefer Wiltshire, or Cheshire as I live/have family in these areas so would be able to pick/drop off.
Budget I haven't really thought about in detail but PGL charge around £50 per day/night so perhaps £250 week but happy to pay a reasonable price, most importantly, I am looking for something reputable and safe. I have contacted Chethams Music School in Manchester but they don't provide residential music schools for children.
Look forward to hearing from you all.

I've bookmarked Kilve Court following a recommendation somewhere on here.

Many, many, many years ago I went on a Millfield School residential course (here. I did creative writing and trampolining Grin - both great fun.

Sorry, I posted those and then had a look to see that Millfield don't seem to do music stuff.

I would contact your County Music Service and ask them - I bet they do residential stuff?

This listing of music summer schools looks good, there are a lot that only start from 13, but some younger ones too? Sorry, no experience of any of these specifically.

Thanks for your replies and I have already started to make enquiries, please do let me know if you have any further ideas.
Thanks

ds did one at Beauchamp House a while ago on the recomendation of someone here which he enjoyed. It was good fun, not too expensive as this sort of thing goes and the music was excellent but balanced with other fun stuff too (some of these things can be VERY intense). They camped in a field which kept the costs down and added to the fun factor.
