Variation for 4 under 5's

Do you think that OFSTED would grant permission for me to mind 4 under 5's for half a day on maximum of 4 days? Im currently minding 1 mindee who is 18months plus 1 mindee who is 28 months. Up to July I also had a mindee of 12 months on whose mum was at college. When this mums course finished she was adamant she wasnt going back to study but has now changed her mind and has enrolled again. In the meantime another young mum has approached me regarding care for her child who is 14months ( nothing was signed )Now I feel dreadful because I have had to turn this 2nd young mum away as she has only just got back to me and now I dont have the space. I am now thinking OFSTED may allow me a variation as my 18 month old attends morings only and the 28 month old only attends on a flexible basis ie dad works shifts so some weeks no care needed some weeks 5 days care needed ( I recieve rota 1 month in advance ).

I have been Registered for more than 16yrs so have loads of experience. I have more than enough car seats travel cots resources etc and a triple buggy for getting out and about.

I know in some areas OFSTED only grant variations for continuity of care but was wondering if they may look favourably on me as I am trying to help teen mums with their education.

I am in the North West by the way if that makes a difference!!!

worth a try

Thanks. I will give it a go and cross my fingers. Wish this had happened at begining of Summer tho because now it will prob take weeks to organise and meantime it leaves 1 young mum high and dry.

I have had a variation request agreed and put in place in about 10 days in the past so you might be surprised (ages ago mind)

go for it

I think you can download a form from Ofsted nowadays?

Definitely use the teen mums and education as your selling point. You know how they like these tick boxes so usually, not being continuity of care would be a no BUT it's a very good cause so I'd go for it. I once had a parent write/sign a letter to show how desperate they were. Also, do you have a shortage of CMs in your area? If so, make sure you add that too!

Good luck :)

Use the correct form on the ofsted website it speeds things up.

Many thanks for your help. We do have a lot of minders finishing in this area so we are a bit of a dying breed as it were. That may help me sway those who must be obeyed!

I shall download the form and get it done asap.

I had been considering registering my own 21 yr old daughter as my assistant so may kill 2 birds at the same time as it were. She is level 3 qualified already and has a CRB check and a First Aid cert. She is two thirds the way thru her Foundation Degree in Early years and a mum herself so plenty of experiance there.
