pre-school education and nannies

Hello,

I need some advice about childcare vouchers. I have tried to read up on childcare vouchers (the salary sacrifice ones) but am getting confused with entitlement to pre-school education vouchers that the government give you which means you child gets 15 hrs of free pre-school education from 3 yrs old until statutory school age in an ofsted registered setting (i.e pre-school / childminder).

Am trying to employ ofsted registered nanny short notice due to my dd being just 4yrs old and only in school for mornings until January. I also have ds who is 2.

So, my question is: would I be entitled to pay for the ofsted registered nanny using the government free pre-school education system or not? And if so, how do I do this / where do I claim? (It was all so simple when she was at pre-school, i just filled in a form!) My dd is not 5 (statutory school age) until next July, even though she is starting school this sep.

Thanks for your help!

my guess would be that the 'in school mornings only' counts as it, so no. When my son started school early (full time, thank goodness), I had a bit of paper saying the schooling replaced the hours. Something like that anyway.

I also suspect that a setting refers to a place (eg childminders house/preschool) not a person (eg the nanny). As far as I can figure, you can pay an Ofsted reg nanny in childcare vouchers and use the childcare element of tax credits.

No. NEG (or whatever they call it) can not be used for nannies. Also in your case, it would be used by School.

Childcare vouchers can be used to help pay for a nanny - the voucher is provided by your employer. Not all employers provide them. It is a deduction from earnings salary sacrifice scheme, so there are scheme rules. It saves you around £900 a year in your Tax&NI payments.

thanks for your help, will look into the childcare vouchers instead, as I know our employer provides them.
