Asking nusery staff if they are available for babysitting

I am possibly needing some additional childcare in the form of a babysitter from 6pm-8pm, 1-2 nights a week, for 6-7 weeks at a time. DS is at nursery 2 days a week, but it is not those days that I would require this evening cover, and nursery shuts at 6pm anyway.

Someone suggested asking nursery staff if they were looking for any additional work as a babysitter. But I am not sure of the etiquette of making such a request? Should I approach staff directly? Should I ask the manager? I don't want to get anyone into trouble with their boss!

I am exploring other options as well, but wanted to give this a try.

yes I've wondered this - if I needed a babysitter they'd be the obvious choice but not sure how to go about it and whether they'd even be interested!

just ask, my babysitter is a nursery worker who studies part time and needs the money. my dc know her and she is absolutely lovely!

I just asked my dc*s keyworker who pointed me in the right direction.

I think its fine, just ask them directly. At mt DDs nursery the staff are always happy to do a bit of baby sitting, and you then have the benefit of a trained person who knows your DC.

I would check with nursery manager, some have a ban on staff babysitting (to be honest if i couldn't trust my staff to do babysitting without breaking confidentiality rules etc then they shouldn't be working for me) however might be a good idea to check.

Other than that ask key person, most nurseries have at least 3 or 4 that babysit.

Also don't call the staff member on the nursery line to sort out babysitting arrangements during staff memebers working hours..never goes down well with me!

Thanks for all your advice!

I will speak to DS's keyworker and see what she says!
