Nursery carer salary and training - max 2 years experience - any idea?

I am currently looking for a part time nanny and we know someone who is interested in the job who currently works in a nursery. Trust plays a huge part in who I will hire to look after DD who is under a year old for 10 hours a day and the benefit is that I trust this person with my children.

She has been working in a nursery setting for 1-2 years. I am only going to be going back to work part time but from the research I have done online, I think that she could end up earning more than she would in a full week at nursery, but it would be great if anyone can give me a more accurate idea of starting salaries for nursery carers in London.

I am also very keen to encourage her to keep up her training, especially if she decides not to find work for the remaining 2 days of the week. She's only young and I do want to make sure she has some sort of career development as I don't think she's really thought things out in terms of how she would like her career to progress. Does anyone know how I'd go about this - no doubt going through the various NVQ levels of training? Would she have to go to college to study on some days? How would she be assessed?

Thanks in advance!

Just to add, I'm only asking about salaries because if she will be earning the same/more than she would have done at nursery for only 3 days work and she chooses not to take any additional work, I think it's important for us to encourage her to do further training for her own personal benefit.

Outside of London in my area West Surrey / East Berkshire a nursery nurse gets 13-15k last time I looked which was probably 6-9 months ago.
Have a look on GreatCare.co.uk and see if any jobs of similar position are listed.

Being a nanny is different to being in a nursery - at nursery you get rest breaks for example. Someone who is not a room leader may just be following someone elses plan.

There is probably more job security working in a nursery, as there are various roles and not reliant on just one families income. However nannying is certainly likely to earn her the same for less days.

If she wanted to do further training she can do an NVQ through an agency such as N&B and they come out to observe her once a month with your child and then set her modules to do in her own time, no need to go anywhere, or she could go the college route which can be 1 day or a couple of evenings a week I think.
