Chicken pox policy?

Sorry thought I'd try this section as tried posting in nurseries and got no replies.

DS (4) has chicken pox so we can't take him to nursery on Monday, obviously, and will have to wait 2 weeks or whatever the nursery policy is (I'll have to check on Monday). What about DD (1) ? Do we need to make alternative arrangements for her too even though she seems fine? I don't want to be turned away from the door on Monday morning and can't ring to check in advance!

If they were at a CM what would you say?

Thanks!

They should accept your DD. They can't discriminate against her unless she exhibits symptoms. While you know she's had exposure 1) due to the incubation period she might not be ill for over a week (at which point she will need to be off) OR 2) she might not be ill whatsoever. Some children have a strong natural immunity.

If your son was at school, nursery would be oblivious to his chicken pox. Besides, the odds are he's picked it up off other nursery children in the first place.

Hi ya Sequins
i agree with Pinkcanary, nursery (or setting) should not exclude your other child.
The health guidelines for chilcken pox is:

until the LAST spot has scabbed over.

hope your child gets well soon - ps try aqueous calamine - you can get it from the chemist, it keeps the spots hydrated.

Having worked in nurseries - the sibling is fine to come in as it;s not 100% definite that she will get the pox

Thanks, DD seems fine so far ...

DS is really spotty now, have bathed him with bicarb of soda in water which seems to help and gave him some Calpol. His gran is going to look after him tomorrow, thankfully.
