I find the E Y F S very wordy (if that a word). How do I commence it. Got pictures etc just want to get it sorted.

Would love some advice Hmm

I start the journeys by putting in the baseline assessment (posh phrase for the All About Me sheets) and some obs that I have observed over a course of 2 weeks settling in. The development matters grids go in and I start highlighting the acheived bits and carry on from there.

I then just launch into the rest of EYFS/Obs/Planning etc

Excuse me nipping in here - OP, I could have posted this!

I've just introduced an 'initial assessment' form to my plethora of paperwork (I prefer baseline assessment though, love that Pippin26, much more accurate description)...But intrigued by the 'development matters grids' - is that Appendix 2 of the 'Practice Guidance for the EYFS' pp.24-116?

Any tips gratefully received, as I don't feel I am quite doing the right thing...

I start mine with either an interview with the child (if older), giving likes, dislikes, what they find easy, what they need help with, favourite toys - just an All About Me sheet with their photo on it.

For younger children, I ask the parents to fill in the sheet.
