You'll need to wait until ofsted reissue your registration certificate. I know one Childminder who wrote very thorough assessment, had no visit and got new certificate in week. However, another Childminder friend more recently had an inspector visit and waited 6 weeks before they could resume Childminding. Afraid it's simply a case of how long is a piece of string. I hope ofsted are much more efficient in processing your move. It's stressful enough without situations like this!

It seems to vary, when we were moving we phoned ofsted straight away and they told us to let them know when we had a completion date, which we did, when we rang back they said (after much haggling) that we could work under our old cert terms until the inspector had been, problem with that was our old cert was for downstairs only, the new house had an upstairs loo, so technically the mindees couldnt go upstairs Confused after much more haggling they agreed that yes children do tend to use the toilet and it wouldn't be practical to have a portaloo, so they gave permission for the mindees to use the upstairs toilet. The inspector finally came out about 6 months after we had moved had a cuppa and a biscuit and the new cert came a week or so later, so the mindees could 'officially' use the loo.

So generally speaking you will need to haggle a lot and speak to the area manager to explain that financially and for continuity purposes it isn't practical to close until the new cert arrives. Good luck

atworknotworking that is fantastic info to know, thankyou. I'll make sure that loophole gets passed around in my area for those that need it. Not sure I'll mention it to my friend who lost 6 weeks unnecessary income though...

I moved 10 weeks ago and am not allowed to work. Ofsted emailed me a form before we moved (4 pages) and I sent that back the day we moved with a thorough risk assesment and floor plan etc.....nothing yet!

Hope yours is sorted quicker!!

jendot that is beyond a joke! I was told on a recent call to ofsted that they aim to look at all varition requests within 2 weeks of receipt. Have you phoned and chased them? It's really not fair that they have so little disregard for peoples right to earn a living, and continuity of care for that matter.
