Is anybody childminding in private rented accommodation?

I just wondered what you had to do? I've had a brief conversation with our letting agent, and she'd never been asked about it before so I said I'd do a bit info finding and get back to her.

Is it as simple as getting permission from our landlord?

Thanks.

As far as i'm aware, yes.

However there are issues that your landlord will need to consider such as house insurance. I assume that your landlord takes responsibility for buildings while you pay for contents. Childminding does have a huge impact on the cost of these insurances (wrongly IMHO. Our homes seem less likely to make a claim). I do not have accidental cover on my buildings or contents as the increased premium was just not worth it. Plus many providers wont offer it to childminders full stop. Your landlord may have concerns about this plus the (assumed) extra wear and tear on the property. I have friends who's landlords wouldn't permit them to childmind, just as i have friends who do mind from rented accomodation.

I hope you have good luck with your landlord.

Yes I childmind from private rented accommodation. I just cleared it with the landlord. He was great about it but that could have been because he had just moved out of the property with his 6 children Grin which is more children than I mind!

Oh and if the letting agent tells you that the property can't be used to run a business due to the deeds/council rules etc just let her know that childminding isn't included in these rules and for some reason (i can't remember why) isn't counted as running a business from home
