Okay so how do you find one, how much are they and how does it work the whole living out thing? We have no room for a live in aupair but are struggling to find a childminder at the moment.

As they live-out, would they need to be paid at least National Minimum Wage?

Not sure if using the term au-pair would be right... perhaps Mother's Help or part-time Nanny is more appropriate. Then again they are just job titles.

Perhaps describing what you want them to do would help.

I would only need someone for 3 hours a day for after school.

After School Nanny

That sort of job may appeal to a nanny with their own child.

You can advertise for that kind of position on various websites, plus look for those wanting that type of job. Sites like Childcare.co.uk, Gumtree.com, Nannyjob.co.uk, NetMums Childcare board. Also local advert in a local shop can sometimes work.

Just to say am in same boat. You might also like to consider when advertising what you will need in terms of childcare during school holidays.

Dont need any as am teacher which kind of makes it harder.

really? I would have thought easier as many people want the time off when their kids are off - so happy to work in term time but not outside of it

Live Out au pairs are girls who have usually been an au pair for at least one family. definition, to be EU nationals. Often their ?pay? will be charged by the hour and generally be rated between £4.00 and £6.00 per hour.If your Live Out au pair is living ?permanently? in the UK and has been working as an au pair for more than two years, they actually no longer fall within the ?au pair? remit ? so do be sure to check this with them before they start working for your family.
Similarly if they are asking a ?wage? (rather than for a small amount of ?pocket money? each week), then they will fall under employment law regulations and be subject to the same rules and as anyone else in the UK.

So, something to think about if you want au pair live-out.
