I've been trying to sort out a childminder for my two DD's, I work three days a week. If I leave the girls with a childminder, taking her charges into consideration, adding my travel expenses to work. It's just not worth going into work.

We need the money, and I need to keep my sanity. Any ideas what route to take????? Please help I am well and truly stuck, I'll give up work if I need to in the end, but that still leaves me with a months notice to work through!!!!

Before anyone suggests it, my family are resolutely against my continuing work. Mother would like me to stay at home, this is where she thinks I, as a good little wifey belong.
Dp does not share this idea, he's more than happy for me to do as I please so long as I am happy.

Any and all suggestions welcome.
TIA

do you get tax credits and will they make a difference if you're paying childcare?

don't see any way round it if you need the money and childcare makes it uneconomical. If you don't have family who will do it for free you'll have to find a better paying job

fuzzywuzzy · 25/08/2005 18:35

Twiglett, I am thinking of speaking to my boss about it, but he had the devils own job getting the other two assistants a pay rise (they were on a pittance), so I won't really hold my breath on that, but do think positive (pay rise type) thoughts for me on Wednesday.

The only suggestions I have are

  1. Give up work until oldest child at school so would therefore only be paying for 1 child fulltime + 1 child after school.
  2. Get a job which includes some evening/weekend work so dh can have children for some of the time.
  3. Become a childminder so you can earn whilst looking after your own children.
  4. Put up with present situation until oldest child is 3 and can go to playschool for part of the day free.

Sorry only solutions I can think of at moment.
By the way I chose option 3

A fourth option ... register as a childminder yourself and offer part-time care for the days you don't work outside of the home yourself. That's the option I chose and it works just fine.
