Hi , I'm currently in the process of registering as a childminder i have a childcare qualification and have been on all the relevant courses and had my pre reg visit from ofsted.
Our crbs came back nearly 3 weeks ago now my hubbies was quite full (nothing child related) but i'm worried it may mess things up for me .
I have rung ofsted and they have said they are waiting for these to be approved and signed off , would they have told me by now if there was a problem ?
I'm really fretting as when i started the process i was on mat leave and had to let them know what i was doing so when the lady from ofsted came she said i would be reg no problem so i resigned!
People i have spoken to have said they got their reg certs through within days of crb .
Sorry i'm going on but any advice would be good am i worrying for the sake of it?

The suitability checks involve more than just your CRB - they also have to get the health check and social services checks back as well. Could it be that Ofsted are still waiting on them?

If a CRB is not entirely clear I believe it can't be signed off at a lower level and managers would have to be involved in assessing whether the information on the disclosure was of concern, and that might just be holding things up. It's the summer holidays for Ofsted inspectors and other agencies as well as everyone else - I think quite a few work term time only so maybe they're a bit short staffed!

If they do have concerns about the info on your DH's CRB and they aren't happy to sign it off straight away they'll usually contact him and you first to discuss it and get the full picture, so you wouldn't just get a straight "no".

We just had a situation where an elderly family member was due to move in for post operation recouperation. Unfortunatly an incident from over 25 years ago came back on the CRB. Ofsted arranged to come out to my home and meet with my family member to discuss the incident and find out how i planned to keep them uninvolved from the children i care for. The incident happened during a very distressing period of their life and the inspector was happy that there was no risk to my mindees.

HOWEVER THE LAW IS THE LAW.

The final decision was not with the visiting inspector. They will ask you to apply for a disqualification waiver which will go to a panel for final decision.

I did not take this option because it would have required me to be temporarily disqaulified from childminding and that was not an option i could agree to as a busy childminder. As a result my family member has had to cancel their operation.

If you husband has committed a 'list 99' offence (usually very serious / against children) they will not be able to provide you with the waiver option.

Ofsted have a guidance document on Disqualifification here; www.ofsted.gov.uk/Ofsted-home/Forms-and-guidance/Browse-all-by/Care-and-local-services/Childcare/Compliance-investigation-and-enforcement-handbook/Disqualification/(language)/eng-GB which should explain the process more in depth.

Hi, thanks for your replies yes all the other checks are back , it may well be that they are short staffed or v. busy .
I would of thaught that if there was a problem they would of wrote to my husband by now.
Guess i'l just have to wait and see.
