My children will be leaving our current CM bacause we are moving. Our CM has been excellent and I'd like to give her something lovely as a parting gift but my lack of imagination is letting me down.

I'm not going to buy chocolate, perfume or flowers but I would like to get her something for herself.

We will keep in touch and she will occassionally see the children. I will be writing her an excellent reference to.

A voucher for some sort of spa treatment? OR a local restaurant (might be too £££)

Our ex-CM has a fairly small place, so I didn't want to fill it up with any more 'stuff'. We got her a 50 euro token for a local spa (enough for a day's entry, sauna and a massage).

Any other thoughts? I think I'd like to buy her an object. Our last day is Friday so I'm running out of time!

does she like to garden? One of my pupils gave me a tree one year, everytime i look at it it reminds me of them. Or maybe garden ornaments (if she likes that type of thing)

if you were thinking for in the house does she like ornaments? Maybe one of those wooden ducks or similar? Or a cool photo frame? Nice fruit bowl? Is she into cooking at all, you can get some beautiful kitcheny bits that are very decoartive?

How about a nice vase?

Or a Buddha (they have some lovely ones in the home section of Sainsburys). Then every time she rubs his tummy she will be reminded of your DC.

Maybe something practical but "nice" that she would use in her day-to-day work with the children? So something she will get use from but that might be a bit more posh or fancy than she would get herself? Maybe not a good example but like a proper sturdy but pretty umbrella or wellington boots, or a nice large multi-pocketed bag?

I found something in the end. I found a figure of a woman with a baby and child - it just seemed very appropriate in the circumstances.

Thanks for all of your tips.
