Really confused as what to say regarding holidays for childminders. I am a Nanny now and charge 4 weeks holiday, paid by employer. But how does it work with childminding?
Who pays what? How much time do you have as a childminder per year?
Do they still pay for your holidays or only the ones they pick? Ohhhh, really confused!!!!

I personally take 4 weeks at half pay. If they have holiday, its full pay, but I try to work our holidays around each other, to be nice I am also paid for bank holidays, but i don't work them (But I am available)

My contract says i will give a minimum of 8 weeks notice for my holidays and it is unpaid, i dont have a limit on how long etc i can have, i did this mainly because i like alot of short breaks and feel that its unfair for parents to pay ME for my hols and also another childcarer. Childrens holidays are paid in full and so are my bank holidays when i am available but charge and extra £10 on top of my normal fee if used!

On my contracts I ask for 4 weeks notice and give 4 weeks notice myself, any holidays taken by myself are not charged for but holidays taken by families I charge half fees.

Holidays are very confusing with childminding as each childminder sets their own arrangements.

I charge half fees for bank holidays, xmas eve to new years day, easter weekend plus 4 days. I don't charge for any other time off if I am closed.

If I am open and child is absent (or dropped off late or collected early), I require full fees unless we have a special arrangement, eg termtime only contract.

Ayla99- how many weeks do you take yourself then?

I take two weeks off for Christmas and two weeks off for annual summer holiday, both unpaid. I have an occasional day or half day off (very occasional, and usually to do something really exciting like major root canal work!) I choose when my summer holiday is, based purely on what I want to do!

I charge half fee when parents have holidays (unless they coincide with mine, so they pay nothing). I don't charge for bank holidays. I usually charge full fee for occasional days off and sickness (if child doesn't come).

I ask for as much notice as possible about their holidays (contract states 4 weeks, but people tend to know before that if they are going away). It's all done on a very friendly basis though.

Some minders ask for half or full pay during minder's holidays. Some minders average out what they expect to get, say, over 48 weeks of the year and divide it into 52 weeks, so get paid for every week of the year.

Some minders say that parents can have 4 weeks holidays/year for half-fee, but charge full fee if parents take any extra time.

Phew!

julieemma - I don't specify a number of weeks in my contract. I haven't taken much holiday aside from those specified in the contract but I've booked 2 weeks this October (told parents last june & offered to help find minder with space but everyone's had time to make their own arrangements).
