Hi,

Does anyone know of a Fiipino who is working for work as a Nanny/Housekeeper? We live in Windsor and I am willing to pay a decent wage £300-350 per week net.

Let me know if you know anything.

Why Filipino?

Hmm

'a Filipino'

It's like the houseboy thread all over again...

Don't be so suspicious

I have a friend who is filipina and who hired a filipina nanny because, amongst other reasons, she could speak Tagalog to the children

Tavvy · 20/07/2010 20:56

That's not usually the reason they are hired as nanny housekeepers though.
Normally they are hired because they do everything for a lower wage tha other nationalities and are more subservient.
£300-350 may or may not be decent depending on the hours and duties involved.

Put an ad on greataupair.com specifying "MUST BE EU CITIZEN" and a million Filipinas will contact you. Of course none of them will have a visa for work in the UK.

Hmm

@Tavvy, you're stereotyping and dead wrong about them being cheap. They're not cheap and are usually hired for their work ethic.

I have a fantastic filipina nanny/housekeeper and she's the most expensive we've ever had.

I have found her absolutely worthwhile because she cleans and irons to a professional standard, does a lot of work on her own initiative and actually makes money saving suggestions. She's also unusually considerate when it comes to use of resources. She's manages to get the house looking like a show home most days. It'll be unfair to class that as subservient.

Her sisters are also housekeepers and get paid over £350net per week.

the previous ones worked, grumbled and ate half of the groceries while I picked up the pieces at the weekend.

I am about 99% sure we had this same thread last year ...

Having worked the nanny scene for years I've seen pretty much everything in terms of this particular stereotype.
Maybe it is just the houses I've worked in but I've always been appalled at the difference in the way I am treated in comparison. They were all delightful hardworking ladies I got on with very well but I have seen enough exploitation and abuse to make me cynical.
It's the way that some I have worked with are treated that gets to me, bullied, insulted in front of the children who in turn are allowed to insult them too. One was forced to dress up as a maid to serve at a dinner party and came downstairs in tears because they were so horrible. I seem to remember the overarching threat that was constantly being made was that if they fired her she would be deported and wouldn't be able to provide for her children.
Yes some employers are not like this but some are. A lot are employed illegally and a lot who do it this way do exploit then like to claim they are lucky to work for them. It will always be thus where there are women from poorer countries seeking employment in wealthier nations to support their families back home.
