Im thinking of going with NCMA or Morten Michel or whatever they are called.

I want the full pack where you get all the paperwork for your business too. Anyone else got either of these and can recommend either way?

Well im a nanny and with Morton Mitchell and never had any problems with them...

tjhats with there nanny policy tho!

I know of lots of nannies who use them, and dont know of any 'bad' stories (yet)! (so i guess thats a good thing!)

I've always used Scottish Childminding Assoc. stuff, but I'm changing my insurance to Morton Michel as it's cheaper as I don't need to be a member of the SCMA to use them. Found I was paying for yearly membership and never using it, so decided to go it alone this year. MM seems okay going by their website!

bonkerz · 20/08/2005 09:13

I have the insurance policy with MM and they have always been great to me and also cheap!! Got a few pieces of paperwork from MM and they seem fine too. Do you really need to go for the full pack? I contacted a few other childminders in my area and we have now develpoed our own paperwork so we all match, was cheaper and OFSTED are happy cos it shows we are united IYKWIM

katymac · 20/08/2005 11:39

I started out with the full pack - but I didn't use the accounts stuff (as my accounts are far more complex - by choice)or the register as my ICP tutor said that the parents need to sign in & out each day for CP (so I use a diary)
But the Insurance contracts medication book are great along with the legal helpline

Good luck (off on holidays now see you all in Sept)

HellyBelly · 20/08/2005 13:04

I've got the full NCMA pack and it's great for me as I'm a new childminder and it's good to get idea's like that. Once anything runs out I'll probably do my own on excel as I can make them the same (or adjust - probably do this for the accounts etc) and save money.

ThePrisoner · 21/08/2005 18:16

I found it helpful, when I first registered, to use the paperwork provided by NCMA. After first year, was more confident about making up my own stuff on PC. Still use NCMA contracts as I think parents see these as being more "professional" (and scarier!)

HellyBelly · 22/08/2005 08:33

Good point about the contracts!

peckarollover · 22/08/2005 08:40

So NCMA over Morten Michel then?

OP posts:
peckarollover · 22/08/2005 08:40

another thing, the insurance cost is covered in the grant that I get for starting up. Do I just get a receipt and claim it back?

Does anyone know?

OP posts:
HellyBelly · 22/08/2005 08:47

Yes. You should be given x amount for the grant. You then keep receipts for items coming to that (insurance, first aid cert, car seats etc etc). I actually got the money first and then had to prove what the money was spent on (but that's because there was a shortage of minders in my area so it was to encourage people - didn't know that until started reg process)

HTH

peckarollover · 22/08/2005 10:48

Sorry to be stupid but can someone clarify.

I am choosing between

Morton Michel EasyMind package which includes insurance, fire blanket and organiser with paper work stuff in (register, cash book etc)

or

NCMA Quality Start Package which includes insurance, NCMA membership, contracts etc and fire blanket

Are they both equal or would I be at a disadvantage if I went for MM over NCMA

OP posts:
ThePrisoner · 22/08/2005 18:08

I don't know enough about MM to comment.

I use NCMA contracts because I think they're professional. Any other paperwork you may use from NCMA would be the same (emergency contact forms etc.) Parents understand what the NCMA is, and "belonging" to a professional body sounds good! You also get quarterly magazines, which can be useful and keep you up-to-date on minding stuff.

(No, I don't work for the NCMA!! ... but I'll be ringing them later asking for my commission)

peckarollover · 22/08/2005 18:17

Yeah it makes sense to go with NCMA really as that price covers membership.

Thanks!

HellyBelly · 23/08/2005 09:14

Didn't know MM did starter packs but I'm very happy with my NCMA pack! (no, i don't work for them either )

FeelingOld · 23/08/2005 12:52

I also use NCMA paperwork and have their insurance, I got it all free for the first time when I registered and found it all very helpful. I still use the contracts, attendence register, accident/medication book but I do make my own child details forms on my computer as I wanted to add a few bits to it and also make my own parental permission forms but I would never consider using my own contracts, it would be far too complicated. I also feel the insurance is totally appropriate as it specifically designed for us.

kcemum · 23/08/2005 14:45

I also use ncma paperwork, I don't feel that the child record forms are detailed enough though so I am intending to do my own so that I can add bits to it.

ThePrisoner · 23/08/2005 18:28

I'm particularly impressed with my own Permission To Do Anything I Want With Your Child forms (apply suncream, go out etc., nothing more worrying!!!) It fills an entire A4 sheet!!

JELLYJELLY · 23/08/2005 21:55

Would you be able to share this with us, i dont use anything like this yet but i think it would be really good.

Thanks

HellyBelly · 23/08/2005 22:09

Hi Jellyjelly - how's ds tonight?

JELLYJELLY · 23/08/2005 22:15

Hot and sweaty still but playing a bit better now. He is eating chocolate so i know he is more himself, got him to eat some chips tonight as well.

HellyBelly · 23/08/2005 22:17

Poor thing but glad he's eating!! p.s. left that booklet at yours!

ThePrisoner · 23/08/2005 23:22

JELLYJELLY - do you mean my "permission" forms? If so, you should already have signed permission from parents for things like taking them out, seeking emergency medical treatment etc. It's one of the things an OFSTED inspector might check up on!

HellyBelly · 23/08/2005 23:52

I think she means she hasn't got her own as I know she knows about the NCMA forms (we were discussing this the other day!)

Jellyjelly, is this what you meant?

JELLYJELLY · 24/08/2005 09:46

i read it wrong, i wanted a get to know the child forms, yes as helly said i do already do this.

kcemum · 24/08/2005 10:23

Jellyjelly, if you have acsess to " Childminding A guide to good practise" book there is a similar
form called childs individual needs (page 19).
I am using this form as a basis for my own version of "getting to know your child forms"
