pay for a weekend nanny

I've just hired an 18 year old girl to help with weekends when I have to work away from home.
She'll be working long hours i.e 7am - 6pm not every saturday or sunday, just when I need her and the hours do vary a bit.
She'll be looking after my 3 year old little girl.

What do you suggest I pay her?
She does have lots of babysitting experience and lots of other childcare experience and a CRB check.

Is she a nanny/working in childcare at the moment? Is this her only job?

Where are you? London nanny rates are much higher than, say, Yorkshire.

I suspect you may need to pay a slight premium for the weekend working so, depending on whether she has another job or not so see what she thinks about £7gross/hour.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
She's currently a student, just finished her A levels and will be going to University in Septemeber, so its not going to be a long term arrangement.
She does have another part time job (childrens indoor play area) and I'm in the midlands.

Okay so you'll be her second job and need to operate PAYE (very simple, see here). I recommend reading taking on a new employee. Had you been her sole employer she'd have been under the £97 limit per week.
She will need to fill in a P46 for you as I doubt she falls into the student working solely during holidays category yet. You need mranchovy for a definitive answer on that.

£7 gross leaves her with £5.60 net using a BR tax code (according to here) as it's her second job, which is probably fair for the Midlands.

I am in east midlands and have lots of experience and qualifications and therefore my rates are from £12 an hr.

However they vary in the midlands from £5.50 an hr for a young person with mininmal experience to £12 an hr for a very very experienced and qualified person.
