Cervix after childbirth (way tmi)

I was shocked to feel my cervix in the bath when cleaning/ checking for the first time down there. I had my son 5 weeks ago and it's rather low (I'd expect that maybe) but it was so open I put my finger in without realising. When I then checked I found the opening is large enough to insert a finger without any stretching at all. Normal? Surely it doesn't stay that open? Making me think twice about sex.

P.s. I was VERY hygienic....

Hi Strawberrycake. The same thing happened to me, but I noticed it at about 6 or 7 weeks after DS was born. I went to see the doctor and she said that it was early days and that my body was still getting back to where it was after childbirth. She asked if I had had a long pushing stage (no) and whether there had been any interventions (again, no.) The doctor then referred me to a physiotherapist who showed me how to do pelvic floor exercises correctly with the help of an ultrasound machine. I did not do the exercises as frequently as I should have, but DS is 18 months old now and I can't remember when my cervix went back to normal, but everything is fine now!

I would definitely bring this up with the GP/MW if you have a six week check-up.

I felt as though mine was hanging out after dc2, but was then religious about pelvic floors and have recently had dc4 and all is fine. I know what you mean about it feeling open, often with later children they say you are already 2/3 cm dilated when pregnant bso not surprising so soon after giving birth. Carry on squeezing, whenever you brush teeth, or make tea, or use computer!!

I was told by the nurse when I had my last smear test that it's much easier to do one on a woman who's had a child as the cervix remains slightly open, whereas it's closed tighly in woman who have never given birth vaginally. Don't have any experience or advice other than that, would always check if something seems wrong though.
