Had a baby 6 weeks ago, still feeling stiff and sore

I had dc4 6 weeks ago, he was very big (10lb12), homebirth, but got his shoulders a bit stuck, so mw had to quickly manouevre pelvis open. I'm still feeling fairly stiff and sore round the pelvis - finding walking upstairs particularly hard, and just still feeling quite battered. Didn't have any stitches or anything like that, so isn't that, think is just muscles etc (my abdominal and back muscles feel shot to pieces too).

Any advice? I was supposed to have post-natal check last week, but GP had to reschedule to end of July, will mention it then, but any advice now would be much appreciated! THanks!

ah yes, my lower back and em, undercarriage were a tad wrecked both times. hows your waterworks?

joint pain is common though after childbirth and it's often linked to hormonal change. low oestrogen mainly.

Could be hormonal I guess! Everything 'down there' seems ok, it really does feel like it's muscular problem more than anything!

I had my baby 8 weeks ago and am still a bit uncomfortable. my little one was only 8lb 13oz but i had to have stiches and things. I still feel very achy at times. i have my postnatal check up today so will try and get some advice and let you know how i get on. I think it will just take time to heal and for bruising and swelling and things to go internally, have you tried arnica tablets? the are supposed to help reduce bruising.

Good luck with your check! Yes, please do come back and tell me what they said? I'm really fed up of feeling so beaten up!

i'm so relieved to hear i'm not the only one. i had DS 8 weeks ago and have been in severe pain. i had a forceps delivery but they still don't know why it hurts quite so much.

RuthieCohen · 07/07/2010 16:47

10lb 12oz and no stitches? Good for you

blinks is spot on about the postnatal joint pain, I had it for a couple of months and had to climb stairs on hands and knees especially first thing in the morning. It does ease.

Congratulations on your big lad.

Hi LilyBolero basically the doctor just said they would expect you to heal and to stop being sore by around 8 to 9 weeks but everyone heals differently so they are leaving me for another couple of weeks before they actually examine me. not much further forward im affraid!!
Like RuthieCohen said it does ease, i am alot better now than i was at 6 weeks but still not right. will just take time i guess. sorry i cant be much help.

I went to see the Doc about my sore hips after I had DS, he told me that you have huge amounts of hormones at the end of your pregnancy to open up your hips for the child to come through and sometimes it can take up to 3 months for everything to feel back to normal.

I had thought there was something seriously wrong with me as I had an EMCS!!!
