VBAC AFTER LONG LABOUR & THIN LOWER SEGMENT

Hi

Sorry another VBAC question!!! Have done thread search & can't find anything similar!

I met with my consultant for first time today to discuss delivery options for DC2. I went into labour spontaneously with DS1 at 40+3, but failed to progress. 44 hours later & after a good dose of syntocin I was a whole 6cm dilated!!! So was told I had to have an emergency c sect as my womb had been under so much stress for so long that there was a chance it wouldn't contract back after delivery. Turns out DS had cord around neck & head so DS was basically on a bungee rope!! This time (23+4) I want to try for VBAC, but today I've been told the consultant who did my csection noted I had a thin lower segment of uterus due to the stress it had been under. So my consultant automatically assumed I'd go for elective Csect, but I don't want to. He wasn't very forthcoming on chances of rupture etc and is happy for me to have 'trial labour' for max 8 hours.
Just wanted to know if any of you out there have any experience of VBAC with thin lower segment. Good or bad experiences/knowledge appreciated!!
Thank you so much

I am not a medical expert, but I have not heard this bfore.
I would consider posting this query on the yahoo Midwifery group health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ukmidwifery/

Thank you Selina,

I will post on the above mentioned board, not heard of it before but hopefully someone will be able to put my mind at rest. My main concern is I was rather stubborn during DS labour & wanted to keep trying for longer but in the end my DH got through to me about the seriousness of situation!! So I'm worried I'll get carried away again this time, my DH has insisted on coming to one of my future consultants appointments to make sure I am listening to everything & not just pushing for what I want !!!!

the issue of the uterus not contracting down is a relevant one after such a long labour , especially if it has been augmented with synto. the uterus gets tired and can be boggy, and the risk is uncontrollable bleeding

re a thin lower segment.. i am not sure if that is something that remains after the labour has ended, so would definitely do as selina has recommended, and also if there is a query , it is possible to have the uterus scanned around the area where the scar is, to see how thick/thin the area is

but bearing in mind you have been told a VBAC is possible, then does not sound too bad!

if all is progressing,t eh 8 hours limit is a bit arbitary.. as long as you are dilating and baby and you are happy/well, then you can ask labour is 'allowed' to carry on over the 8 hours

Thank you Lulumaam, I have registered with the yahoo groups websites so will post there in a mo.

The consultant seemed concerned about the thin lower segment but was so vague about what it actually meant for next delivery. He did ask if my consultant at DS1 birth had given me recommendations for any further pregnancies. I sadly don't remember being told anything & neither does DH however we had been up for a couple of days!!!
