Anterior vs. posterior labour?

My baby is posteror. I wanted to opt for a VBAC. I'm nearly 27 weeks. What can I do to turn my baby? Or should I just give up and go for another CS? I definitely don't want forceps anywhere near me or bubs and I'm not sure about ventouse.

Please tell me your stories? Am I right to be scared of a posterior labour? If yes, what can I do to turn the baby?

I'm already fairly active, I have a 20 months old toddler who never sits still

you do not need to worry about this yet

i had a posterior labour with ds2., was fine.
6 hours from first contraction to him being born

a lot of posterior babies turn during labour anyway. ds2 didn';t but as I say it was fine

Your baby has plenty of time to turn. Many turn in labour anyway.

Congratulations and good luck

Oh, okay, and I was starting to get really worried. I really don't want another CS. I didn't know many babies turn in labour.

My doctor said she's actually prefer a posterior labour in VBAC ladies.

Why? Does anyone know? I forgot to ask...

I had a VBAc with forceps. Why the fear of forceps? Honestly, having a V birth was amazing- even with forceps. It was great, just a little help was the way I saw it.

To get on your hands and knees as much as possible is good, sure you know this. You also have WEEKS for baby to turn! Try not to worry!! There's a good chance of you getting a VBAC without forceps also.

Because of the risk to the baby. I am not in England, sadly, but in the UAE and medical care is not so great. I'd rather not have that here.. I'm also afraid of the damage to my perineum, woowooo. Were you & the baby okay?

Hi,

This is a great link (don't be put off that it says home birth in the link title)

Both my babies were posterior labours. DS1 was born face up (I htink!) and DS2 turned helluva quick during a very quick labour!

The optimum foetal positioning stuff is interesting, but the evidence is that it works best in early labour, IIRC.

All the best!

I had a posterior baby first time around - she turned TO posterior in early labour.

They were very keen on getting me on the birthball, hands and knees, no knees higher than hips etc ... and said I shoudl do the same inthe late stages of pg with 2nd pregnancy.

Posterior labour was hard going, second time (and 3rd) no bother really.

SO the big thing they told me to avoid was a long time on the sofa if my feet weren't up, or long car journeys.

But 27 weeks is very early to worry - my babies were probably anterior - posterior - anterior about 15 times a day at that stage!!!

and just as a semi-interesting aside...

Apparently both of my babies adopted a posterior position due to the shape of my womb (which is heart-shaped, or bicornuate) although it is quite minor. Both babies were born a few weeks early and they also theorised that this may have had something to do with it.

I only know about the shape of my womb because I had a very early scan, otherwise would never have known.

Anyway, nothing to do with anything

Thank you Julie, that's an awesome link! I can see where my errors lie and will change postures accordingly.

Thanks weegie, you're giving me hope.

YCTT, that's interesting, I have no idea what my womb is. I think I'm just a lazy slob who loves driving her car and putting her feet up

Baby and me were fine. He's a strapping almost 1 yr old now. he just had some little marks on his face that faded after a day.

I did have a tear and it stung and hurt a little, but compared with not being able to stand, walk and hold my baby it was nothing.

My Dh was strict with me -get on your hands and knees and get up from the sofa. (He msut have secretly enjoyed bossing me around!)

You've still got ages. Good luck and hope you're feeling more confident now.
