Baby boom

The unit where I work seems to be the busiest I have known it at the moment(outside of the usual September peak). Is this a nationwide phenomena, are there millions of babies and pregnant women ready to pop out there at the moment!

Oh no please don't say this. I'm due in 3 weeks! i was hoping and praying for a nice quiet ward... you don't work at york do you?!

No, luckily for you as it has been pretty awful for the women (and midwives tbh) where I work. Like a production line (with the added bonus of being unbearably hot!)

I am in Cambs. My local team usually have 90-ish women on the books. They are currently down below 70 as lots gave birth during May.

So quiet-ish here, although my mw did do 6 new bookings on Tuesday so numbers will soon be back up x

(Phew! Due to give birth in Cambridge at the end of next week; crossing my fingers it won't be tooooo busy).

There is definitely a baby boom going on though -- never seen so many pregnant ladies and prams in town!

I'd heard that there was more babies being born round here (SW London) because of the fall in property prices and the credit crunch. It also means that the demand for state primary school places has risen....

Basically...

People with 1 kid who might have 'moved out' are staying put until property increases in price so they're having second kid in this area too.
Parents are either having wage freeze or one/other made redundant so they don't have spare cash for private schools/fancy holidays. But they are spending extra time with their children and thinking how nice a baby would be...

Also when I was growing up two kids was definitely the norm and any more was unusual. I think only one of my good friends had more than one sister/brother. But lots of people now seem to want 3 or 4 children (we're aiming for 5!!)

Yes, this is our fourth x
